Trump is the reason we're paying over 2 dollars a litre for gas. Tariffs are taxes. They raise the price of goods for consumers. High gas prices drives up inflation. Netanyahu is holding the world hostage. He is the terrorist.

The US booze boycott effects Rand Paul's State of Kentucky and Bill Lee's state Tennessee. Those are good people. Canada's economy is tied to America's economy. When the American economy prospers, Canada's economy follows suit. Trade wars just shoot ourselves in the foot. They are petty and small minded which defines Trump 2.0. Ignore him. No counter tariffs.
However, fake trade agreements that take away civil liberty are also bad.
Two wrongs don't make one right. Carney wants to match tariff for tariff because tariffs are taxes and Carney wants to raise taxes.
Sadly, it seems you are one of a handful of people that see the harm that will come from counter tariffs. I am disappointed by the American tariffs but why should Canada compound the stupidity by imposing counter tarrifs? Yes they will hurt Americans but they will also hurt Canadians.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Counter tariffs with raise the price of goods for Canadians. Everyone complained that the carbon tax was just another name for tax because it is. Yet those same people cheer counter tariffs because they've been had. That's like cheering on the carbon tax, the GST or any other tax.

ReplyDeleteTrue but there's a bit more too it than that. It's cheaper for us to buy beef from Australia than Alberta. That's becuase we're getting ripped off. I guarantee you Trump is paying less for Alberta beef than Vancouver is. It's also because we send the unrefined oil to Washington state and they gouge us when they refine it. Everyone, including the US, is paying more for gas because of Trumps shameful war with Iran.
