Slavery, real slavery, still exists today in two basic locals, Africa itself, and the Gulf States/Saudi Arabia. I worked in Kuwait for a year and was disgusted at the way the Kuwaiti's treat people from impoverished countries who come there to work. Their passports are immediately seized and exchanged for a Kuwaiti ID which must be carried on them at all times. Many of them are forced to work for less pay for than agreed on and often must go to court to get paid at all. Many of the female domestics are raped by their employers, etc., and every year dozens escape from the country by various ways that do not include just going to the airport with their passport and flying home. Quite frankly I left there after a year thinking that perhaps we should have let Sadaam hold on to the place rather than returning it to the Kuwaiti's. Many Kuwaiti's are of course grateful (within limits) to American's for getting them their country back, but anyone who treats other people like that deserves to suffer as well. And don't bring up the subject of Israel or Jews either. If I do recall there is a rather strange story in the Bible about that with regards to Judah and his daughter in law. He was going to have her stoned for adultery because she got pregnant after her husband had died. Until he found out he was the father of the child. Kinda awkward. Child labour in Thailand is a huge concern as is child prostitution in Bangkok. That link appears to be just about South Africa not having prison transfer agreements with any other country. Kinda like how it would be nice if Canada had one with Australia or New Caledonian for the Stanleys. You are quite right in that for all our civilization there yet remains a great deal of barbarianism.

Dennis Watsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06736981069304416233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6576246045591350665.post-4682131648788669432013-01-27T00:26:00.778-08:002013-01-27T00:26:00.778-08:00Actually Agent K, can you explain this to me? But, I have no problem with sending people (who originate and distribute those drugs in large quantities) away for a very long time. Even the death penalty if they sell drugs and people overdose and die. It's my humble opinion you shouldn't be selling something that can kill people after altering their perceptions.

I've found govs to be very corrupt when it comes to money and drugs. America is so hypocritical at this point it's frankly, just a shame.

The CIA has made a laughable joke out of the Geneva convention and even basic forms of decency. That is why I think Amnesty International is really ineffective. The rule of the law of the land in any sovereign country is supposed to be sacrosanct. But, then again, America constantly violates sovereign countries and arrests people in their own country and steals them to America to imprison them. Even American high courts have found this to be illegal...but nothing changes. Might makes right.

This is a cool site. Thanks for putting it up.

I read some of the Buziak stuff. Everyone seems to think it's Shirley and sons...but they passed a lie detector test. If you try to fool those tests the best result you're likely to get is an "inconclusive." But they apparently all "passed". I know the police really take polygraphs seriously, so I can see why they "cleared" them. Unless the cops are involved...but that seems a bit off. What's your opinion on the who dunnit? I know the keystone cops around here will never figure it out...

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6576246045591350665.post-49175794497730279072013-01-21T17:49:27.724-08:002013-01-21T17:49:27.724-08:00I oppose privatized prisons. They are a flaming co...I oppose privatized prisons. They are a flaming conflict of interest. Texas had strict laws against pot but I think even they are starting to see the fiscal costs. I think there's a huge difference between pot and crack or crystal meth. I support decriminalization of pot but not crack or meth. I think we need stiffer penalties for those offenses. Not thirty years but more than just house arrest. The big money was made by government agencies that sold cocaine they received as payment for arms they sold. Sending someone to jail for pot while they made millions from the sale of crack was absurd.

Amnesty International might help. This case revolves around human rights. People have the right to a fair trial, to have a lawyer represent them and to have human conditions in prison. The black prison sites of the CIA violate all of those because they make those torture sites off shore where they claim citizens aren't protected by the constitution. It is an immoral twisting of the constitution knowing full well it violates the intent of the constitution.

Amnesty International will support a criminal found guilty of anything if they receive the death penalty. I'm not sure I'd be as zealous to support that aspect of their campaign for all offences but my point is that's one example of a cause they support where the people are guilty. Does New Caledonia have a bona fide court system where they will be represented by a real lawyer? If it doesn't then AI can help raise the objection they be tried somewhere that does, Australia, Canada or their point of origin. Not some remote island they happened to sail past. Then there's the concern about conditions of imprisonment. Even if they add there name to a list people can write letters on behalf of, at least that's something.
Dennis Watsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06736981069304416233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6576246045591350665.post-73119166349552655552013-01-21T17:20:49.441-08:002013-01-21T17:20:49.441-08:00The profit from the "drug war" from surv...The profit from the "drug war" from surveillance to arrest to imprisonment is mind boggling if you include everyones salaries and massive for profit prison system funding. Olie North spit in the face of Congress (lied) sold drugs to buy guns and was called a god damned hero! *shakes head* I don't usually get into the big picture of the failed "war on drugs" because I find greed and corruption sprouting from both gov and gangsters. At least the gangsters are honest about it. We have a lot to learn from alcohol prohibition but no one is paying attention to that 20/20 hindsight. I think the entire United States (and by default Canadas) approach is laughable. A year ago our Federal gov put horrific new laws on the books concerning drugs (much to the dismay of other world leaders) just to assuage the lunatics in Washington. Then Colorado and Washington state made pot legal.

Anyway, I believe you are referring to the prisoner transfer treaty. Canada and America have one with Thailand. It works something like this. If they give you fifty years in Bang Kwang (the big tiger) you typically serve 7 or so years and then can "serve the rest of your time in your home country." When they transfer you to a facility back here in North America you serve a couple of months and then they let you out because our laws don't provide for such massive sentences for such crimes. They then tell you never to return to that country...duh...heh. But, much to the chagrin of British citizens, Britain does not have a treaty so you're stuck there. You die there. As far as I know Canada does not have this treaty with New Caledonia. They don't even have a consulate there. If you look at the govs website they even say through the Canada-Australia Consular Services Sharing Agreement, your only option for consular help is through the Australian consulate. How much do you think the Australian Consulate is going to want to help them? I think they are in one of the most severely screwed up situations a human can be in and not be dead. Which is a distinct possibility for them. I shudder to think what's happening to Cindy, an attractive blond woman of European heritage alone in that place. Ugh... Look at the iron hand New Caledonian authorities are playing. They've most like milked them for any information they might have had and the Stanleys haven't even been charged. They are denying any sort of communication with them. The province, ottawa, the local police...all are being shut out while no charges even being laid. It's absolutely brutal.

http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=40d60ca1-31b2-44a5-867f-646f46c19fd4

And I agree with you. It looks like they had a wonderful family and life. They are guilty of being greedy and stupid but pedos arrested in this country are being treated astronomically better than they are. And I find that a far worse crime.

I can't imagine what Tamara is going through. The helplessness...the abject ghastly fear and revulsion. Ungodly sad. :(

I just feel like their punishment is going to be off the scale compared to the slimy big time drug pushers that get arrested here and hang out in our club feds. The horror and terror that these people are suffering through is almost unimaginable to you or I. Gary User Ick (Yuzik) shouldn't even rot there and I have no use for him. Take a look at the first few quick shots of what a prison cell looks like in Noumea.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmu3ws_rapport-sur-la-prison-du-camp-est-a-noumea_news#.UP2YxCc0WSo

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-09/an-more-prisoners-may-pursue-compensation-over-ncal-jail/4187312

Below: Please read the second article down from a 14 year old girl who is just telling you about the city of Noumea...not its prison! :O

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Australia_and_Oceania/New_Caledonia/Noumea-1908407/Warnings_or_Dangers-Noumea-TG-C-1.html

New Caledonia is a defenceless little podunk place. They don't have a navy that goes around looking for drug cartels and smugglers. In fact, that area is a well known drug smuggling alley and many smugglers have traversed it successfully. But the DEA agent in charge had the navy pick them out of the water once they had entered New Caledonian jurisdiction. I thought that to be a very malicious and cruel thing to do when they know fine well that New Caledonia is neither prepared for or used to this kind of thing (and they know fine well what Noumea prison is like). But the US Navy shows up with 3 captured Canadians and this is probably the most exciting thing New Caledonia has seen in an age. The Megalodon was wandering around all over place. If the DEA had picked them off in Australian waters, the Stanley's could have at least been put in a civilized, first world "western" jail. But I think what drew the ire of the DEA was the sheer gall of these rubes to flaunt such an enormous amount of product in the face of the U.S. Navy like there was no chance they could get caught at all. Gary probably fed them that line. And the Australians were pleased that they could take credit for the bust but had no desire to spend possibly hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, prosecuting and incarcerating Gary and the Stanleys for the rest of their lives. The only hope for the Stanleys now is to find someone powerful enough in New Caledonia willing to strike a deal with the Canadian gov. to let them serve their time here in Canada. But, if you have ever seen the Canadian gov's lack luster performance in dealing with any foreign govs in behest of their citizens, I would imagine the Stanleys are doomed. And yes Agent K, I too feel sad for their entire family. What a mess. :(Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6576246045591350665.post-72619880362038308432013-01-21T01:04:45.873-08:002013-01-21T01:04:45.873-08:00I missed this one.
