Hells Angels clubhouse turned into community space
Thunder Bay City council unanimously voted Monday night to approve Evergreen a United Neighbourhood’s plan to convert the former Hells Angels clubhouse on Heron Street into a community space. Evergreen coordinator Linda Bruins told council that the group currently holds its meetings on a street corner near Minnesota Park. The space on Heron Street, given to the group by the Ministry of the Attorney General, would allow Evergreen to have indoor meetings and have a space to hold events.
Clem Hamel said the area has enough community centres and churches. Council heard from supporters of the idea before making the unanimous decision. Coun. Paul Pugh said this was the best opportunity to see a former negative space turned into a positive one. “It’s got to be about a positive move as I can imagine,” Pugh said. Former police officer mayor Keith Hobbs said he supported the change.

ReplyDeleteVANCOUVER — A coalition of health, academic and law enforcement experts is calling for the legalization and regulation of marijuana, saying existing laws only drive the billion-dollar industry underground and fuel gang violence.
Stop the Violence B.C., which comprises dozens of police officials, doctors, university professors, legal experts and more, released a report titled Breaking the Silence, which aims to show that marijuana prohibition, while well intentioned, has been ineffective — and, in fact, has adverse effects.
"There's a huge problem that nobody, particularly political and other leaders in B.C., is talking about, and that is the link between cannabis prohibition and organized crime," said Dr. Evan Wood, a coalition member and director of urban health research initiative at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. "The gang warfare that's playing out on our streets is a natural consequence of cannabis prohibition."

I’m glad they are drawing the line at pot. They will get more support for that. I cannot accept legalizing all drugs like crack, crystal meth and date rape drug. This is a perfect example of the three extremes. On one side we have a huge percentage of the population calling for the legalization or at least the decriminalization of pot. In response we see Stephen Harper do the exact opposite by implementing mandatory minimum sentences for growing pot. Despite the fact that a supreme court decision chastised the government for making medicinal marijuana unavailable. The third extreme is legalizing every drug under the sun which would be irresponsible.

ReplyDeleteHaving seen the layout of this house I am very curious to how they will use it. This house is built like a bomb shelter. I'm not even sure if they could tear out and re-design the interior.
ReplyDeleteI guess if they were previously meeting on the street corner anything indoors will be helpful.
ReplyDeleteA thousand shamans would need to perform a smudging ceremony before I stepped foot inside there!!
