Cranbrook murder goes to trial
*OK this is a pretty confusing case. I'm going to have to do some more work on it.* John Garry Shanks becomes police informant. Well this guy looks like a real winner. Here we have a drug dealer in Cranbrook with an extensive criminal record and he’s the one that becomes the police agent. Go figure.
This case is the tragic story of a double murder in Cranbrook where they murdered the wrong people who rented the home after the rival drug dealer they were trying to kill moved out. It is of course tied to the Hells Angels. One of the accused Chad Munroe, was an associate of Mission Hells Angel Jason Arkinstall. The investigation is referred to as E-Portamento.
The accused were involved in the drug trade in Cranbrook. The object (of the murder) was to control the drug trade in the East Kootenays. The target was a rival drug dealer named Doug Mahon who had been charged with shooting Hells Angel associate Chad Munroe back in 2009. The trial is scheduled to continue Thursday.

ReplyDeleteOK this is a pretty confusing case.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to do some more work on it.
"Has nothing to do with this case:"
ReplyDeleteOK, but;
"...(Police) we do confirm that the intended target of the earlier murder conspiracy had previously occupied the home."
?
Yeah I'm a bit confused on this one. Someone did a hit on someone and got the wrong people instead. This trial is for conspiracy to murder the same guy whoever did the hit and got the wrong target was after. One would assume it was the same people. Yet those charges don't seem to be in this trial. Just the conspiracy to murder the same guy the other people were after. One would think, if they were after the same guy, they were then ones that killed the innocent people by mistake. Yet it doesn't look like they have been charged with that and defence is arguing their clients are innocent of both accusations and someone else was after the original target. It will be interesting to hear what the wire taps produce in court.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course all this nonsense is pinned to the HA...
ReplyDeleteIf one of the accused, who is a Hells Angels associate, is found guilty.

ReplyDeleteYou don't have to worry about being censored here KG. Unless of course someone gets all in my grill about some over reaching publication ban I'm not aware of. That doesn't mean we're going to agree with everything you say. It does sound pretty complicated and messy. This Gary Shanks does sound like a complete nutbar. It will be interesting to hear what the wiretaps produce.
Delete"comment has been removed by the author", LOL. This from someone who was worried about censorship, unless it was them censoring themselves obviously.
DeleteToo funny.... :D
I think they were worried about creating a mistrial. As long as there is no publication ban in place, reporting what happened in court ism a good thing.

ReplyDeleteThe whole concept of exonerating someone for murder to get a conspiracy to commit murder conviction is somewhat baffling. Especially when he was the one that orchestrated it. We've seen something similar with the Jeff Lynds case back east.
DeleteObviously criminals do not need to have firearms, but...
Delete"an AK47 loaded with full metal jackets"
LOL. Because those are especially dangerous, right? Like, even more so than regular ammo? Well, 99.5% of all 7.62x39mm ammo produced IS FMJ ammo, FMJ IS regular ammo, so this is not a surprise.....would it be better if they were hollow points? Perhaps soft points? That sounds better, right, "soft"?
It was LOADED. With ammunition. It is always amusing to anyone with any knowledge of firearms when people who have none themselves try to sound like they know WTF they're talking about, never realizing that all they've done is call attention to the fact that they don't, and past that, that they have an agenda.
To put it another way, trying to sound smart and failing makes a person sound....um... not smart. Trying to be polite here.....
some people are bored. so many facts WRONG guys. if people need to talk about it, they should get it right.
ReplyDeleteI talk to the accused daily and I know these guys were not respondible for any deaths. They do t even talk about shooting anyone on the wire taps.. This case is bunk the cops screwed up royally.

ReplyDeleteI will NEVER be SILENT to the INJUSTICE I have witnessed involving Cranbrook RCMP, Cranbrook Crown and the CSFU in Kelowna! John Garry Shank used and abused the system, the RCMP, the courts and those he called family and friends to avoid jail time and receive protection from an automatic 5 yr gun charge when he was arrested with it a machine gun by becoming an agent for the RCMP. He is now in witness protection and got paid over $100,000! He confessed to murder on the stand guaranteeing himself protection under the charter for that confession of murder. The 3 men being charged and on trial ARE NOT ON TRIAL FOR MURDER! They are on trial for CONSPIRACY to commit murder, a conspiracy orchestrated by Shank! One of the defendents has never been convicted and has NO RECORD and crown is asking 16 years and Shank confesses to murder gets paid and walks away into a new life with a new name and no jail time! This conspiracy was orchestrated by John Garry Shank and the RCMP! He was paid $50,000 by police to conspire with these men to commit murder but he was not successful. They did not all agree to a murder, they were not all of one mind. There was no common agreement between them and there was NO MURDER. These men have been brutalized by corruption and 2 have spend over 2 YEARS in jail waiting for a trial! Do you want the truth? Read my tweets, I hope you have a strong stomach because the truth about EPortamento, Cranbrook RCMP and the Cranbrook Crown is disgusting! I swear I will shine the light into the darkest corners of this corrupt case of injustice...
I think a judge struck down the mandatory minimum sentence for gun possession claiming it was a violation of the charter of rights which it is not. I think it was a three year minimum not five. However, paying someone who has confessed to murder to be an informant in a conspiracy to commit murder case where he himself organized the murder is rather bizarre indeed.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the 35 year retired Coroporal Chris Faulkner even faced dicipline for actions that would net most of us prison time? I wonder if Cranbrook Crown will seek charges against the former Cranbrook RCMP officer Corporal Faulkner in regards to his confession of facilitiating smuggling Oxycontin into city cells for Garry Shank, a federal parolee UAL from a halfway house arrested on a Canada Wide Warrant. Shank agreed to work with police and begged to be let off the automatic conviction he was facing for the restricted machine gun (AK47) he and RCMP testifiy he had care and control of at the time of his arrest in Novembe of 2009. Oh thats right, the charter protects Faulkner from using his confession against him, just like Garry Shanks confession of murder on the stand. Th following show that MOST Crown Councils take facilitaton of drugs into prison VERY seriously...

Machine guns are prohibited class firearms in Canada. When Police make reference to restricted firearms when laying charges, they are almost always talking about a handgun. In the case of the AK47 it would not matter as it is a prohibited class weapon whether it is full auto or semi auto only.
DeleteI need to correct a previous post. There have been so many figures floating around in regards to EPortamento, the truth is I do not know how much this file has cost the taxpayers. Shanks initial contract was for $50,000. I believe it was after he threatened to quit and expose the operation he was given new handlers and his award amount doubled. Sounds like blackmail to me but that is just my humble opinion. The truth is Crown council objected to defence question regarding the total cost to taxpayers for EPortamento and would only allow questions in regards to the direct billings for the RCMP agent Shank for his hotel, food, smokes, his drug debt and his designer $400 jeans. The public has a right to know how much we are as taxpayers are on the hook for handlers flying to winnipeg to "deal" with crown after the assault on his girlfriend and the billings against the file. The court costs alone are staggering! All this was done and approved by crown to proceed with charges against the accused even after Shank admits to murder at the pretrial conference and on the stand. He has conned the RCMP and Crown council and got exaclty what he wanted, a big fat paycheck, charter protection for a murder confession, a new identity and protection from the RCMP witness protection program. This case is an outrage and the Canadian people have a right to know the truth. I swear I will shine a bright light into the dark side of justice. Lonnie Adams has been sitting inside waiting for this trial since October of 2010, that is over 28 months! A Cranbrook judge denied Lonnie Adams bail! Garry Shank was awarded bail after his assault against his girlfriend and the 2 arresting officers! He was charged for that assault and served time in Kent for it. Shank testified in court saying "I dont apply for bail" and also admitted that he has never had a time on parole that he has not returned to jail for either being UAL or other parole violations. I will NEVER be silent to the injustices I have seen in regards to this case and believe that the Canadian people have a right to know the truth.
