Surrey Six Conviction Upheld
The Vancouver Province is reporting that the first convictions in the Surrey Six murder has been upheld after Catherine Wedge dismissed the accused's application to have their conviction over turned due to police misconduct.
This is good news. There is no way a cop sleeping with a witness whose testimony was not relevant to their conviction would over turn it. Yes the cop screwed up and yes the climate of unprofessionalism within the RCMP where cops get drunk with and flirt with witnesses on a regular basis needs to be addressed. That does not mean murderers should get away with murder. Especially when innocent bystanders were executed.
This whole insanity about being mistreated in prison is a farce. Solitary confinement to preserve the integrity of a trial is not mistreatment. Water boarding and torture is mistreatment. These clowns don't have a clue.
Almost thrown out because of RCMP corruption and incompetence. Almost another Air India / Picton or similar fiasco courtesy of the worst police force in Canada, the RCMP. Disband these morons and keep them as a ceremonial show on Parliament Hill for photo ops with Harper and Japanese tourists. The rest of us deserve better.
ReplyDeleteOK, so it's a Police force you're talking about, but you get the idea......
Delete“I'd like to have two armies: one for display with lovely guns, tanks, little soldiers, staffs, distinguished and doddering Generals, and dear little regimental officers who would be deeply concerned over their General's bowel movements or their Colonel's piles, an army that would be shown for a modest fee on every fairground in the country. The other would be the real one, composed entirely of young enthusiasts in camouflage uniforms, who would not be put on display, but from whom impossible efforts would be demanded and to whom all sorts of tricks would be taught. That's the army in which I should like to fight.”― Jean Lartéguy
So apply this concept to the RCMP. Keep the "Musical Ride" folks, give them deactivated .38 revolvers with fancy lanyards to put in their holsters, dump the rest......the problem you would face though, is similar to de-nazification at the end of the war, and "de-Baathification" in Iraq; by the time you get rid of all the worthless cops we have now, who trains all the new ones? And if it's any of the old bunch, the culture of policing we are so ill served by right now is perpetuated. If we were to start afresh, we would need to start afresh completely. And of course we could count on those who presently occupy such positions to do everything in their power not to be got rid of, to include doing criminal acts (more than they do presently) to frighten the sheeple into retaining them. They don't want "the true north strong and free". It's inconvenient to have to actually answer to the citizenry.
A useful parallel might be how the British built SOE and their codebreaking organizations up from nothing before and during the war. Between a selection of the right kind of men from military backgrounds and well-educated civilian academic types, they were able to create an organization that in short order got the results necessary to the task. Imagine such a concept applied against organized crime, from the leadership of gangs right down to the crack/meth dealer on the corner.......it IS a war on crime, make no mistake.
Excellent idea - that reminds me of Elliot Ness and the "Untouchables".

DeleteMuch of what SOE did in occupied France is still classified information, not to be released until 2030, but the jist of it is this. They murdered every Nazi son of a bitch they could find. Google "welrod". They didn't take them prisoner, they didn't observe their rights under the Geneva Conventions. They killed them. The Nazi's made a mockery of the civilized conduct of "diplomacy by other means" and by SOE were treated such in turn.
The Hell's Angels and their ilk, the predators who line their pockets with the silver they make from converting human potential into misery, will never be effectively dealt with by the rules and methods and by the laws which are suitable for civilized people. They call themselves "Outlaw" for a reason, and they enjoy great success because we do not take them at their word, and act appropriately.
"Leaving the life"......well and good as far as it goes, presupposing that they come to that point before it can be arranged for them to leave it feet first.
Mountie Captain: "I do not approve of your methods!"
Ness: "Yeah, well... You're not from Chicago."
VANCOUVER -" In a North American first, heroin addicts in Vancouver will soon receive prescription heroin outside of a clinical trial. Doctors at the Providence Crosstown Clinic received shipment of the drug this week for 26 former trial participants and will begin administering the drugs next week. In all, 120 severely addicted people have received authorization from Health Canada to receive the drugs; the rest are expected to get them soon. (Globe & Mail)"

Everything that's wrong with Vancouver summed up in one link. That is the exact opposite of the New York Model. We might as well save everyone all the misery and just cut a cheque to the Hells Angels. Tax dollars paying for heroin is just plain stupidity. You can't get an MRI but you can get free heroin. The road to Hell is paved with stupid intentions.
