Drive by shootings in Surrey and New West
CBC is reporting that police reported a silver sedan firing shots at a small red car on 128 Street at 60 Avenue just after 7:00 PM last night. Linda Hepner is refusing to comment.
CBC also reported that police closed the bus loop at the 22nd Street Sky Train station after a shooting at a nearby home early yesterday morning.
Global is reporting that there was yet another shooting in Surrey Sunday afternoon. One man is in hospital with gunshot wounds after being found injured in the 7000 block of 130th Street at 5 p.m.
Things be hoppin' 'round there.....and it's only April. Looks like it's gonna be a long hot summer.....
ReplyDeleteGood documentary on CBC Passionate Eye last night about the drug trade in the U.S.A. and Mexico. It looks like it was a co production with the BBC. Dealt with the roles of the DEA, etc. in the gun trade.
ReplyDeleteAsks some interesting questions. So in the end, who really are the really bad guys. the head of the DEA, who they interviewed is my favorite.
When we look at the Dianne Rock story, it becomes clear that there are more then one bad guy. Two wrongs don't make a right. Corruption in the DEA, CIA and the ATF doesn't mean selling crack and pimping crack hos is OK. Yet the corruption in the DEA, CIA and the ATF needs to be addressed.
DeleteIf all this stuff was legalized/taxed/controlled, they would be largely out of business, prices for the product that drive crime to get the money to obtain them would both drop, and people stupid enough to to try crack or meth despite the reputation they have would still do them.....why haven't we done this exactly??
ReplyDeleteWhat we are doing is not working. It continues to not work at ever increasing rates. Much as we find the idea distasteful, we need to try other approaches rather than continuing the drug war and all that it entails.
I do not agree with the government having the right to tell an adult of legal age what they can do or not do with their own body. There is no perfect answer to this, but some answers are less perfect than others.
Are you on crack? What we are doing is nothing. We let them sell crack in public and we don't arrest them. That is not the New York model. Legalizing crack and crystal meth is complete social irresponsibility.
Deletewell certainly without quality control its socially irresponsible. its also bad business practises.
DeleteIn my opinion society would be better off with legalizing certain drugs and cracking down on things such as crack and crystal meth. Of course the solution to much of this is better mental health care, more rehab beds and more rehab centres, with adequate housing once a person had finished rehab. Sending people to rehab, to only discharge them to the streets once again, is no answer to the problem. if there were adequate treatment centres and housing, there would be a considerable savings in policing costs. Of course, with a reduction in policing costs, someone's empire might be negatively impacted and it would appear Fordy's empire might be one.
Mandatory minimum sentences for pot is dumb but legalizing crack or crystal meth is insane. I'm not even going to go there. That is not the New York Model.
