Edmonton fentanyl bust
Alberta's gang task force strikes again. The Edmonton Journal is reporting that "Three Edmonton men have been charged following the seizure of 2,000 fentanyl pills at a southwest-area condominium, the largest bust of the lethal painkiller by the Edmonton members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams."
Christopher Jervis, 28, James Jervis-Hilker, 35, and Billy Roche, 28, have all been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The fentanyl is thought to have come from BC.
No telling how many lives ALERT just saved with this bust. Fentanyl is just too powerful to be used recreationally, especially when the user doesn't even know they're ingesting it. The worst part is, those who are selling this as "E" or whatever else cannot help but be aware of the fact after so many fatal OD's. Willful endangerment and attempted manslaughter charges would seem to be appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI have to point out that entry level users of heroin tend as much to snorting or smoking as they do "skin popping", which is where it injected subcutaneous. Mainlineing straight into a vein comes later after skin popping no longer gives the same bang for the buck.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with snorting or smoking fentanyl is that, unless you have one of the lollipops our medics had for serious injuries such as GSW etc. (self selected dose, when the patient passes out, the medic removes it from the mouth and replaces the wrapper for further use with that patient) it often comes as a pill and is represented to the user as Oxycontin. Oxycontin is about 2x the strength of morphine. When a user takes a pill, approximately 70-75% of the potential effect is not available due to the digestive process. Breaking the pill up into power and smoking/snorting it increases effect GREATLY.
Now imagine that Fentanyl is approximately 80x (that's eighty) stronger than morphine. It's pretty easy to see how even just eating the pill can get someone into trouble very quickly, especially an occasional user with low tolerance. Turning it back into power and snorting or smoking it can very easily be the functional equivalent of hundreds of times stronger than what the user thinks they are taking, be that heroin or Oxy. It wouldn't surprise me to find that not all the Fentanyl sold in BC/elsewhere is run through a pill press and that some of it reaches the user in powder form, pretty much guaranteeing an ingestion method other than oral. Et voila, dead people....
Frankly anyone who chooses something stronger than weed is pretty much rolling the dice with their life every time they use. Has no one heard about crack, or seen "Faces of Meth"? "Addicted the first time I use it? Wow, that the shot for me...."
My personal theory is that anyone who voluntarily tries anything harder, knowing all that at some level, is ether congenitally stupid, or has a hole in their life, a lowered sense of self worth or something that would let them "risk" (not really a risk, more of a certainty) their health, their future, and indeed their life.
I think some people are born with more of a innate sense of self worth than others. Some less so, and others have whatever they were born with lost through lack of nurture of that, or even having it damaged by people around them growing up. Pretty sad. You could say "Darwin in action", but most of those people would still not be dead except for the heartless killers who sell such poison and turn human lives and potential into cash in their pockets. A lot of those folks are doubtless damaged individuals themselves, but that can't be allowed to excuse their actions. By the time someone has multiple DUI offenses they need to be off the street for a good long while, it's just not worth the risk that they'll cross the center line one night and kill someone's father/mother/child etc.. Anyone who will sell poison for profit needs to go away until the point in life where age and incarceration may give them a different point of view. Sentences measured in single digits are a joke.
Yes but if you crush up a pill and snort it, you know you're not getting heroin. That's what they should be telling people on the street while they hand out free needles and crack pipes as they promote the drug trade.
DeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteCongrats once again to the Edmonton police. If the f. was coming of B.C. one does wonder why the B.C. police couldn't make any arrests. Perhaps they don't want to. The B.C. Lieberls don't want to ban the sale of the pill making machines, so one does have to wonder what their stake in the game is especially since the Chief Medical officer of B.C. declared a state of emergency. Queen of the photo ops has done little to nothing to deal with the issue. On the other hand, if they let the F. hit the streets and a few hundred more people die, that will be a few hundred the B.C. Lieberals don't have to worry about.
ReplyDeleteYeah kids are lining up on the dtes to get their free crackpipes and needles and supporting that awesome drug trade 'they' are 'promoting' smh
ReplyDeleteYou do good work but I don't think there is anything wrong with at least providing free clean needles to the junkies they leave alone to protect massive the drug profits. They stop the spread of hiv and hep c. Now if you believe the junkies deserve to have these diseases and die
Then you have no right to play white knight when some hells angel beats and tortures said junkies on film.
It's not a matter of playing white knight, it's a matter of doing what's right. Junkies don't deserve to die. We shouldn't aid and abet or promote their addiction either. Handing out free crack pipes is insane. The four pillars program has four pillars not just one.
