Linda Hepner asks Trudeau for $10 million
The Peacearch News is reporting that "Surrey mayor asks feds for $10M to combat gang problems." Yeah right, she wants $10 million alright. To go on another junket before she leaves office. She hasn't done a thing to combat gang violence while in office so why is she going to start on her way out? This is just more smoke and mirrors. She's going to say we tried to combat gang violence but the federal government wouldn't fund it. It doesn't take any extra funding to arrest the drug dealers in Shakerz or on the Surrey Strip. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. Good riddance to Surrey's Worst.
OMG, that woman has chutzpah and a set of brass balls to go with it. Asking NOW for $10M. where was her concern 4 years ago, 2 years ago, when she got on council?
ReplyDeleteAs far back as the 80s and 90s, Surrey politicians campaigned on the basis they didn't raise taxes. To avoid raising taxes they started metering water and increasing fees, but they didn't raise taxes. As a result, in my opinion, they didn't fund things which need to be funded to maintain a safe and secure environment for all citizens and their businesses.
Surrey and Vancouver have similar populations but Vancouver has twice the number of police officers. surrey has one of the largest land bases of a City in Canada. Had the politicians, back in the day, raised taxes, and started addressing the issues, and getting their own police force, things would not be as bad as they are today.
As you point out they won't even arrest drug dealers they know of in locations they know of. I do recall, in Rotterdam, back in the late 1960s, if drug dealing of weed was kept to two specific night clubs they police didn't arrest you. Of course that was to confine it to two spots so they could keep track of things. I don't think that is the case in surrey and never has been. its a case of a police force which doesn't report to anyone local and a city council which hasn't cared in decades who dies or whose business tanks, as long as they and theirs keep what they have.
Linda Hepner has been raising taxes alright. Tax and spend is all they do.
