I met a new crime blogger at the Bill Majcher appearance today. His name is Geoff Meggs and his blog is Lotus Land on Substack. He has a very credible history. Seemingly he is a former journalist, former Vancouver City councilor and the former chief of staff for John Horgan. He was even the Executive director of the BC Federation of Labour.
Obviously he's going to have a different opinion that me on many issues but he's allowed to. People are allowed to hold and express different opinions. I'm sure there are many things we do agree on. It's nice to see him covering the crime beat. The mainstream media isn't. He posted a very eloquent explanation as to where the term Lotus Land comes from. I thought it just meant rich people driving high end cars.

Doctrinally, Freemasonry is Theosophy.
ReplyDeleteLotus (Gr.). A most occult plant, sacred in Egypt, India and else where; called “the child of the Universe bearing the likeness of its mother in its bosom”. There was a time “when the world was a golden lotus” (padma) says the allegory. A great variety of these plants, from the majestic Indian lotus, down to the marsh-lotus (bird’s foot trefoil) and the Grecian “Dioscoridis”, is eaten at Crete and other islands. It is a species of nymphala, first introduced from India to Egypt to which it was-not indigenous. See the text of Archaic Symbolism in the Appendix Viii. “The Lotus, as a Universal Symbol”. - Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, The Theosophical Glossary (Krotona, CA: Theosophical Publishing House, 1973), 191.
Occult plant? Come on. Buddhists use the lotus as a metaphor for life. Rise above the muddy water and aspire to something higher. It's very positive. I thought lotus land was referring to the high end car. Geoff says it comes from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem The Lotos-eaters, a recasting of Odysseus’ tale of lost mariners. I always thought lotus land was a derogatory term for yuppie.
