Surrey protest against India’s controversial Citizenship Amendment Act
The Indo Canadian Voice is reporting that "Dozens of people came together on Sunday to denounce the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government in India at a rally organized in Surrey. According to the protestors, the CAA is a divisive law that welcomes only non-Muslim refugees from the Muslim-dominated countries neighbouring India. Aimed at polarizing the Hindu majority against Muslims by excluding Muslim refugees from these countries, CAA has sparked angry protests all over India, especially from those who feel that it violates the Indian constitution, which is based on the principle of secularism that does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion."
Wow, a citizenship test based on religion. That is not a free republic. That is a direct violation of the US Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights. The Hindu government in India claims that the racist law doesn't violate their Constitution. Of course they say that. However, if their Constitution is anything like ours, it most certainly does. This is why we need a separation of Church and State. Discrimination based on religion is illegal.
Mahatma Gandhi was an inspiration. Gandhi was a Hindu in India who saw extreme violence between those professing to be Hindu and Muslim. Gandhi said "my Hinduism teaches me to respect all religions." Jagmeet Singh explains the history of religious persecution in India.
