Snow at the top - web cam. It won't last. This winter is an El Niño. Warm winter on the west coast and cold winter on the east coast. La Niña is a cold winter on the west coast and a warm winter on the east coast. However, the El Niño in Vancouver doesn't normally hit until December so we might get some snowshoeing days before that. After that it'll be hit and miss.
As I was on the Surrey on ramp to the freeway on the way to Langley today a hawk flew across my path as though is was going to land then turned around mid air and continued flying. As it turned I saw bright red on it's lower back. I guess that's what they mean by a red tail hawk but I thought it was just above the tail on his back. It happened fast so I could be mistaken. I just remember seeing red. We see hawks sitting on lamp posts all the time. It's not often you see them in flight. It reminds me of the Bob Seger song roll me away.
"Stood alone on a mountain top Starin' out at the Great Divide I could go east, I could go west It was all up to me to decide Just then I saw a young hawk flyin' And my soul began to rise And pretty soon My heart was singin' Roll, roll me away I'm gonna roll me away tonight Gotta keep rollin', gotta keep ridin' Keep searchin' 'til I find what's right And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight And I said next time Next time We'll get it right."
Seeing the hawk in flight was for him an omen. Likewise for me, after being at a crossroads in life I now know which way to go. So roll me away. From the mountain to the sea. A rider on a western highway who thanks God he is free.
