Paul Palango is an accomplished Canadian author who has written several books about crime. Many of which are critical of the RCMP like Dispersing the Fog. Turns out he's also a podcaster. Today he and criminal defense lawyer Adam Rodgers talked quite a bit about the Bill Majcher case over in Vancouver.
Turns out Majcher is pronounced Miker. I did not know that. They talked quite a bit about the case at 22:01 in today's podcast and continues to 37:11. Paul had written about Majcher is his book Dispensing the Fog saluting his competence.
They also talked about the RCMP's use of spyware on two police officers who know Bill Majcher who had no idea until it was mentioned in a disclosure. That forced them to ask how many other police officers are the RCMP spying on?
The iceberg principle always applies.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. It's like how the Toronto Police denied they were using stringray antennas for warrantless cell phone surveillance until they were caught using them in a Freedom of Information Act request. Now we literally see them all over Surrey at traffic lights.
DeleteAnd no consequences when caught. Scary stuff really, because after that anything is possible. We can talk about management all we like, and that's totally accurate, but management didn't go out and install all that equipment, and management isn't running it all day to day.
DeleteWelcome to Canada, we’re the police can run rampant all over your rights.
