9mm Ballistics from Ammo dot com

Sam Jacobs from Ammo.com sent me a few links to some articles they've been working on comparing the ballistics of the 9mm with the .357, the .38 special and the .45 APC. 9mm is very common. I started my daugher off on a 9mm and kept her there. That's what she prefers. She likes semi automatics. She hates revolvers. I like both. If you use your thumb to cock the hammer the trigger pull on a revolver is much better. If you don't it's kind of irritating for a target shooter. The trigger pull on a revolver is painfully long if you don't cock the hammer first.

The first article is entitled 357 Magnum vs 9mm: Revolver or Semi-Auto for Self-Defense? For those of us in Canada that is totally hypothetical because handguns aren't for self defense here. They're just for target shooting. However, we do have some American readers that might find it interesting. Canadian readers will find it interesting because it explains how much kick you can expect when shooting it at the gun range. However stopping power is important for hunting.

You can't hunt with a .22. You can only shoot gophers with a .22 and why the hell would you want to shoot a gopher. You can't hunt with handguns in Canada but you can hunt with lever action rifles that are chambered in .357 and .44 magnum. You can shoot a deer with a .357 and you can shoot a black bear with a .44. I dunno about a grizzly. Best to have a shotgun for that. Shooting a grizzly would be just for self defense. They're protected. In Churchill they have polar bear tours and all the guides carry shotguns. They don't shoot the bears. They use blanks and shoot in the air to scare the bears so no one gets attacked.

The second article from Ammo dot com is entitled .380 ACP vs 9mm: The Concealed Carry 9mm Showdown. Again entirely hypothetical for those of us in Canada because we don't have conceal carry permits. It is of interest because it compares the .38 to the 9 mm which are very similar as far as kick goes. The third article is entitled 9mm vs 45 ACP:The Greatest Pistol Caliber Debate.

My grandfather had a Colt .45 after the war. That's probably the most practical as far as stopping power without too much recoil. He passed away when I was very young and my parents got rid of it because they hated guns. I would have loved it but I was too young at the time. I haven't shot a .45 much. Certainly not recently but I have shot a .44 magnum lots. That's my favorite caliber now. Not too big and not too small. Just right. It does have a lot more kick then a .357 but it's very manageable in a lever action rifle. I don't waste my time with a .50 cal. Too much kick and you can't hit anything like the big rock and the small rock analogy from the movie Braveheart. I find a 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip very uncomfortable to shoot. 9 mm is very comfortable.

OK so I'm not going to get in a pissing match over this. IMO a .22 is a child's gun and a pink .22 is priscilla's gun. Everyone has their own preference. For me a .22 is too small while a .50 cal is too big. That's just me. That's my preference. My son hates guns. I've never taken him to the range because I have respected his preference. He's a great person. At least I don't have to worry about him shooting anyone. Taking a life, unless it's to stop them from taking a life, is a horrible thing.

Shooting squirrels is kind of Dr Phil. I'd have to be pretty hungery to eat a squirrel or a rat for that matter. They resorted to eating rats when the castle in Derry was under siege. I'm a hiker not a hunter. When I see wild life I want to take it's picture not shoot it. For me, moose tastes a bit too gamey. Deer is OK but who wants to shoot bambi or a rabit for that matter. We had rabbits for pets. I prefer beef but if the manufactured famine hits, being able to hunt is important. If you want to eat squirrels and pigeons go right ahead. I'm going to try and find something else.

A few years ago I was taking the gondola down from the Sea to Sky. There was a couple with a dog there and the attendant wanted to know if I was OK sharing a gondola and he asked me do you like dogs? I said naw I prefer beef but I'll be happy to share the gondola. They didn't appreciate my sense of humour nearly as much as I did.

In Canada the most common hunting cartridges are the .30-06 and the .308. Both fire a .30 cal projectile. The .308 has a little less powder behind it than the .30-06. The .30-06 came out first back in 1906. American soldiers used the .30-06 in WWl.

The .308 came out in the early 1950's. The M1 Garand was used in the Korean war and has an internal magazine like the SKS except it fires a .308. I'm pretty sure that's what Clint Eastwood had in the movie Grand Torino. The idea was the .308 had almost the same stopping power as the .30-06 but it was a bit lighter. You could fit more bullets in a box when shipping them to war. The .308 in a bolt action is my personal preference for a hunting cartridge.

The Americans love their .223. That's even lighter than the .308 and was designed for the M16 which is fully automatic. When you're shooting full auto, you don't want an overly heavy load. We don't shoot full auto in Canada. We're not allowed. The .223 is also used in AR 15's. That's why it's America's most popular cartridge. Every American home should own an AR 15. Just like every Candain home should have a refurbished SKS with a synthetic stock. They sell freedom buckets of .223 ammo. Those are pretty cool. However, you can't really hunt with a .223.

There's a debate about whether or not it is ethical to shoot a deer with a .223. The experts say yes it is depending on placement. If you shoot it in the head or heart it's an ethical kill. They say the .223 is good for hunting coyotes but then again, who wants to hunt a coyote? Are you gonna eat that? I'm not. You can hunt with an SKS but you can't hunt with a full metal jacket because it goes right through the animal without killing it. You need a soft point or hollow point for hunting.

Another factor is cost. Ammo is expensive now. Everything is. The bigger the bullet the more expensive it is. The nice thing about the .22 is that it's cheap to shoot. You can buy 9mm by the case fairly reasonably. The nice thing about a .357 is that they also fire a .38 special which is a bit cheaper. You can buy those by the case as well. .44 magnum are a bit pricey. I save my brass for those because I'm going to start reloading my own .44s. .223 is a little bit cheaper than a .308 but it's still about a buck a round out of the freedom buckets with 300 rounds. So, find your preference and don't forget, you can rent them at the gun range and try them out first.

Police identify victim in Surrey shooting

The RCMP is reporting that "On March 13, 2023 at 7:54 pm, the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 2300-block of 167A Street, Surrey, BC. When Surrey officers arrived on scene they found a deceased man in a parked vehicle who died as a result of gun shot wounds. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Aren Alexander Smith of Surrey. Mr. Smith is unknown to police and has no known ties to the ongoing Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. Mr. Smith and his family had recently moved to Surrey."

Campbell River & Prince George street level drug bust

CTV is reporting that "The Campbell River RCMP say two people were arrested after police executed a search warrant at a home near the north end of the city earlier this month. Mounties say the property on Ebert Road was the site of four suspected overdose deaths since 2017."

"On March 16, police searched the home and arrested a 66-year-old woman from Campbell River as well as a 27-year-old man from the Lower Mainland. Mounties also seized several weapons, ammunition and a replica firearm, as well as more than $3,000 in cash, 13 grams of fentanyl, 17 grams of crack cocaine, four grams of cocaine, 316 hydromorphone pills and several other prescription medications." The amount of drugs seized doesn't sound like much but it is very significant because this is street level drug trafficking.

When we led a crack down on crack campaign in south Seattle back in the /80's during the US crack epidemic, the crack houses would only have a small amount of drugs on location at a time. They had runners that would keep reloading them with more drugs. They was if they were raided, they'd only get caught with a small amount of drugs and avod a significant penalty. They were selling a significant amount of drugs but they only had a small amount in their possession at a time. Confronting street level trafficking is very important work because if you let forest fire burn out of control, it will consume everything in its path.

The RCMP is reporting that "During the month of March 2023, Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit executed two search warrants in support of a two-month long drug trafficking investigation. The search warrants were executed on the 1700-block of 17 Avenue and the 2600-block of Recplace Drive. During the searches, nearly 1400 grams of suspected fentanyl, 170 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 28 grams of suspected cocaine, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia, were located and seized. This is a significant seizure of fentanyl and is enough for approximately 14,000 individual doses of the illicit drug. One male was arrested and subsequently released back to the community pending the full results of the investigation."

This bust is also significant because it confronts street level trafficking. Police also seized a kilo of Fentanyl in Chilliwack along with crystal meth and illegal guns in the hands of criminals. That saves lives, reduces crime and reduces gun violence. Just sayn.

Stormy Daniels' Circus Freak Side Show: Update

Update: Glenn Beck sets the record straight about the witch hunt on Fox News

Newsweek: Donald Trump's Arrest Has Finally United Republicans

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Stormy Daniels is a cheap whore. The Fake News is reporting that "Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, multiple sources tell CNN, marking the first time in American history that a current or former president will face criminal charges. Trump's attorney said he likely will be arraigned next week. The indictment has been filed under seal and will be announced in the coming days. Charges are not publicly known at this time, one source told CNN."

CNN is ridiculous and so is this circus freak sideshow. CNN claims "Trump released a defiant statement, calling it Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history." That's exaclty what it is. It's a distraction from their bipartisan criminal activity in the Ukraine.

Let me tell you a story. Make that two. Back in Ireland a lot of people were Catholic. They only went to Mass twice a year: Easter and Christmas. Then all of a sudden England comes in and says you're not allowed to be Catholic and you're not allowed to go to mass. That created a knee jerk reaction. What do you mean we're not allowed to go to mass? We'll do whatever we want. All of a sudden church attendance skyrocketed. As soon as you tell people they can't do something they say yes we can. Persecution solidifies resolve.

During the last election I went into Vancouver and took pictures of some Hong Kong friends waving Trump flags. I believe in free speech and in giving a voice to those who are being silenced. One of them reaches out with their Trump flag and hands it to me. I froze. I have no problem giving him a voce but did I really feel comfortable holding a Trump flag? I was undecided. I don't like Trump. I think he's a idiot but stunts like this push me into supporting him.

The reason people like Trump is because he's not afraid to call them out on their sh*t. The left has become so far left, they've lost their mind. Candace Owens led the Blexit movement where Black Americans left the Democrat party. Brandon Straka led the Walk Away movement where Gays and everyone else started leaving the Democrat party. He left them because they became consumed with hate. Tulsi Gabbard finally left the Democrats because of their extremism. It's time to move forward and leave the circus freaks to their own devices. Give it up for Glenn Beck.

Ryan Chiappe on the Lam

My Prince George Now is reporting that "Local police are looking for Ryan Timothy Chiappe, who is wanted for multiple firearms offenses, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and three counts of breaching a release order."

Ryan WTF happened? You don't look so good. Ryan is a Hells Angels associate from Prince George. He goes way back. Possession of stolen property. Where's the honour in that?

Whatever happened to Ryan's Bedknobs and Broomsticks crew? Maybe they grew up. Why didn't Ryan? He looks like a career criminal. What a disappointment. I remember hearing a funeral sermon once. They mentioned the gravestone that had the year of the person's birth then a dash followed by the year of their death. Then they asked how did you spend your dash?

It was a play on words. Often we hear of the 100 yard dash. He compared the dash between the birth and death date to a person's life on earth and asked how did you spend your dash meaning what did you do with your life? How will you be remembered? What is your legacy? Smoking crack and stealing cars? Really? That was you life's mission? What a disappointment. You could have done so much more. It's never too late to get clean and do something positive. It's never too late to do something worthwhile. We just need to man up and grow up. Word.

OPP officer found guilty of sexual assault

The National Post is reporting that "Jason Redmond, a constable with the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County, was found guilty of sexual assault in a Brockville courtroom last month for having sexual intercourse with a woman while she was unconscious. A judge found Redmond also made a video of the assault on his phone to prove the victim had a drinking problem, and to teach her a lesson about how irresponsible she was when consuming alcohol.'

“'He made the video to show that anybody could rape her,' Ontario Court Justice Janet O’Brien read in her ruling last month, recalling the testimony of one Crown witness. Redmond, who has been on paid leave from the provincial police service since 2015 after being involved in a local drug trafficking operation, was charged with sexual assault in 2021."

"On the day in question, the victim had been drinking alcohol, the court heard, while both she and Redmond did cocaine many times throughout the day, as well. Redmond, who started working with the OPP in the mid-2000s, was involved in another high-profile case after being convicted of drug trafficking in 2015 stemming from his involvement with Project Arrowtown."

Things that make ya go WTF?

Missing Man from Amherst, Nova Scotia

This one's from my mother's crib. CBC is reporting that "The disappearance of a northern Nova Scotia man has brought more heartbreak to a family still processing the death of a loved one who was shot and killed in Amherst, N.S., last year. Jessie Morrissey, 26, was last seen Feb. 13 in the Leamington area of Cumberland County. His 23-year-old brother, Jerry Morrissey, was killed this past November and a man has been charged with murder in his death."

However, CBC is also reporting that "The Crown has dropped a murder charge against an Amherst, N.S., man who was accused of killing 23-year-old Jerry Jordan Morrissey nearly a year ago. A spokesperson for the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service told CBC News in an email the Crown concluded the evidence against Joseph Thomas Hartson didn't meet the prosecutorial test." AYFKM? How does a crystal meth dealer from Breaking Bad get away with shooting someone in the back? How is shooting someone in the back self defense?

Police are now saying the disappearance of Jerry's brother Jessie is suspicious. Ya think?

Missing Man from Merritt, BC

Infotel is reporting that "The family of a missing Merritt man isn't giving up the search. Miguel Mack, 24, was last seen on Feb. 27 in Merritt, according to an RCMP media release."

Miguel is First Nations. There are several names of interest that come up in this case. Dean Seymour is one. Kristal Poirier is another. Castanet is reporting that "In a news release, Merritt RCMP said Mounties were alerted to an alleged assault and forcible confinement on Friday, March 17. On Saturday, police executed a search warrant in the 1900-block of Morrissey Street in Merritt, detaining several people and arresting a female suspect. Kristal Lynn Poirier was charged with assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement." Kristal was in court March 20th.

Jody Johnson has a long criminal record for drug trafficking.
Devon Jules is also a person of interest with a long criminal record.

Fatal Stabbing in Vancouver - Update

Update: It’s time to bring some common sense back to our justice system

OK there is a viral video of a fatal stabbing at a Starbucks in Vancouver and it is absolutely horrible. I'm not showing it. This needs to be a call to action for our obscenely unjust judicial system. There needs to be a significant consequence for that horrific act. Things need to change. Starting with Justin Trudeau. That was murder.

This brutal atrocity happened in broad daylight at a public place in front of women and children. That is not acceptable. However, there are two separate issues that arise from this. First is the brutal atrocity. The second is the fact that people are sharing snuff films all over social media.

I did not post the video and I will not post it nor will I share it. I posted a screenshot of the suspect so he can be identified. More than one person sent me the video because it's news that should be discussed. However, today I saw someone showing people the video on their phone. That is mentally deranged. How many times did they watch it? Thankfully many people simply said I don't want to see it. They said it's too disturbing and it is. Thankfully not everyone out there is DEVO.

Clearly this barbaric act requires a follow up. Fatal stabbings are not new but the fact that this was at Starbucks in front of women and children is. Every business has surveillance cameras and now everyone has cell phones they can film things on. Remember that mental case that was stabbing people on a Greyhound bus and tried to decapitate someone? Can you imagine if someone filmed that on their phone and people were sharing that video on social media? It would take a special kind of mental case to share that video on social media.

This murder reminds us of two other unresolved murders in Surrey and the nature of the law surrounding self defense. As we saw in the Amherst case, shooting someone in the back is not self defense. The Crown prosecutor who withdrew those charges should be charged with obstruction of justice. Sadly this is not the first time this has happened.

First let's review the senseless murder of Kyle Yellowbird. That one broke my heart. He was fatally stabbed and bled out on the sidewalk. His mother and stepfather held a candlelight vigil at the blood stained site every night for I don't remember how long. A mother who lived nearby shared with Kyle's mother her version of the events. She held him in his arms as he bleed out and passed on. She then embraced his mother with those same loving arms that held her son.

Kids were crossing the street. A car recklessly speeds past them and Kyle's friend kicks the car, that's how close it came. The man gets out of the car and starts pounding Kyle's friend. Kyle comes to his friend's assistance and the driver stabs Kyle in the heart. That is not self defense.

All he had to do was drive away. He initiated a physical confrontation. Stabbing someone in the heart is not self defense. It is premeditated murder. You know exactly what you're trying to do.

Years ago when Curtis asked us to restart a Vancouver chapter of the Guardian Angels, we did our use of force training with inspector John McKay from the VPD. He was a legend. He was explaining that the only time you are authorized to use lethal force is against a lethal attack. If someone threatens to kick your ass, you're allowed to fight him but you're not allowed to kill him.

We discussed takedowns and submissions. He said a rear naked choke is considered a lethal response and may only be used against a lethal attack. Lethal attack I exclaim? That's my favorite move. As soon as you lock on, the guy submits. Nobody gets hurt. He was clear a rear naked choke was considered a lethal response. So is stabbing someone in the heart.

Stabbing someone in the leg is very different then stabbing someone in the heart. Stabbing someone in the heart contains predetermined malicious intent. It's called murder. Just like what happened at Starbucks in Vancouver. It was a senseless murder.

Tragically, Crown prosecutors did not even charge Kyle Yellowbird's murderer just like in the Jamie Kehoe murder. The Crown withdrew the charges in that case as well. Those Crown prosecutors need to be fired and charged with obstruction. Stabbing someone in the heart is not self defense. It is a premeditated act of murder.

Fatal stabbing in Dublin

I knew a young man who was fatally stabbed in Dublin many years ago. He was actually a missionary. His name was Elder Critchfield. I met him when he first came out. He was a bright eyed good looking blond that was in good health. He was interested in my previous work with the Guardian Angels but I kind of downplayed it since we were there on a different kind of mission. Later on we went on trades with him and his companion. He was a good kid - a fine young man.

One night when he and his companion were walking home a couple of sketchy looking guys started following them. One of them comes up to Elder Critchfield and pushes him. Then when he steps back his companion saw something glisten in the moonlight. It was a knife. The guy had just stabbed him in the heart. There was nothing anyone could have done.

Here's the creepy part. Before he left on his mission, his father gave him a priesthood blessing. In that blessing he told his son that on the last day of his mission the savior would embrace him and say well done thou good and faithful servant. He had reminded his son of that promise in letters encouraging him to keep the mission rules so that he was worthy of that blessing. Surely they thought their son was going to have some kind of apparition like brother Joseph or over in Fatima. The prophecy came true just not the way they had hoped. He was murdered.

UDA replace top cocaine dealer after sentencing

UDA chief Mo Courtney hires new dealer to head-up his drugs operations

Sh*t be cray in Belfast yo. It appears that the drug trade has taken over some of the paramilitaries back in the Holy Land. The Belfast Telegraph is reporting that "UDA replace top cocaine dealer within minutes of sentencing." They're referring to Billy Crozier.

I'm like WTF? UDA - Ulster Defense Association. That's the Protestant paramilitary organization that opposes the IRA and a united Ireland. They support British rule. In 2021 the Belfast Telegraph reported that "Five arrested for drug offences as PCTF targets South East Antrim UDA." Then yesterday they reported that "Under threat loyalist gangster Adrian Price says he is going nowhere. The crime boss — whose Newtownards home was smashed up by the rival North Down UDA — has vowed to remain in the town despite having a target on his back."

Notice they are referring to the UDA as a crime group and the former leader as a crime boss. That's new. Back in the /80's the UDA didn't have to hide. Their recruitment posters were posted publicly. They are also referring to the rival North Down UDA. Rival factions within the UDA? What's up with that? The Sunday World explains "Tensions in the loyalist estate are said to have been high in recent weeks with Price’s mob blamed for a number of incidents in which residents had been intimidate and extorted. The area is predominantly controlled by the rival UVF raising concerns over a possible feud but it is understood Fisher made his move after Price failed to get back in line. Ironically Price was a staunch Fisher ally during a damaging year long feud in 2016 in Carrick which ended with the murder of former UDA commander Geordie Gilmore. The hit came after a lengthy feud with Fisher’s SEA unit."

UVF - Ulster Volunteer Force. That's a splinter group. They're supposed to be on the same side with the same objective they just disagree on strategy to accomplish that objective. Just like the splinter groups within the IRA. Last year the Sunday World reported that "Dublin gangsters have warned UDA boss Mo Courtney he’ll be “Putin” his place for robbing them of a stash of guns, we can reveal. The crazed cartel thugs also threatened to wage a ‘holocaust’ war on Courtney and the rest of the Shankill UDA. Threats and warnings were issued after it was claimed Courtney and his new top dealer “stroked” a cache of guns from the cross-border drugs cartel."

Dublin gangsters or Dublin paramilitaries? They said gangsters. They also state that "his new big-time drug dealer – dubbed the ‘New Mr P’ – is absolutely terrified according to well-placed sources." The UDA's big time drug dealr? WTF is going on over there now?

Then the Sunday World confirms that "And we can reveal the simmering feud is threatening to bring a faction of East Belfast UVF into conflict with the West Belfast UDA. OK so it's not necessarily a conflict with the UDA it's between the UDA and the UVF but no doubt that conflict has ripple effects within both groups with regards to how to deal with it. Not everyone agrees on what to do and how to do it. "A source has claimed notorious rapist Gerry ‘Vermin’ Verner, who’s closely aligned with East Belfast UVF, is believed to be behind the torturing of the Shankill man who it’s claimed had been looking after the guns for the Dublin-linked gangsters. The vulnerable man is a known drug user and had been bullied into keeping the weapons for the Dublin gang."

Wow. This is a British paper getting it's intel from MI 5 or 6 who are involved with the drug trafficking. They refer to Gerry ‘Vermin’ Verner as a notorious rapist and a drug dealer. Like I said, sh*t be cray yo. Evidently they don't care about him being a rapist or a drug dealer, they just want their guns back. I can understand them wanting their guns back but all this involvement in the drug trade has kind of tainted their original mandate. Greed kills so it does and drugs fuel the greed. Back in the day the RA would shoot drug dealers dead.
