The New Pattullo Bridge is still two lanes

They closed the old Pattullo Bridge for cars on Saturday and let pedestrians walks across it this weekend. Now it's closed for pedestrians as well as they prepare to disassemble it now that the new bridge is finally up and running.

We walked across it on Family day and the thing that I noticed walking over it that I never noticed driving over it was how short the iron arch is. Most of the bridge is over land. The iron arch over the river is relatively short.

The new bridge looks good. It's obviously safer because of the divider between oncoming traffic but I didn't realize until today that the new bridge is still only two lanes. That defies stupidity.

The old bridge is two lanes and during rush hour the traffic backs up all the way up the hill on King George. Spending an obscene amount of money which typically kept rising due to over runs for another two lane bridge reveals something inherently wrong with our government.

The other obvious concern is SNC-Lavalin. SNC-Lavalin is one of the largest criminal organizations in Canada tied directly to all levels of government. They consistently under bid and over charge government contracts and keep getting away with it because of kickbacks in campaign contributions. That is money laundering of tax dollars.

As a result they constantly hide their involvement in new projects under a maze of shell companies. All the obscene over runs in the Site C Dam were because of SNC-Lavalin. All the obscene over runs in the North Vancouver waste water facility was a SNC-Lavalin partner. Same with the over runs in the new Pattullo Bridge hidden by a maze of shell companies.

I have always had faith in Ezra Taft Benson's prediction that the Constitution will be saved by righteous men and women who love and cherish freedom. However, seeing BC's constant support for SNC-Lavalin's organized crime makes me reflect on Ezra Taft Benson's warning about secret combinations.

He quoted a scripture in Ether which states “. . . whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold they shall be destroyed.” We are indeed upholding these secret combinations and as a result our divine destiny will be lost.

May we wake up and break free of this plague that enslaves us.

  1. Well said, Dennis! You've perfectly articulated my own thoughts. It's baffling that the decision-makers didn't choose to build a four-lane bridge, which would have undoubtedly improved traffic flow.

    1. Yeah that one is pretty astounding. For years they were talking about twinning the Port Mann bridge to improve traffic flow. They ended up changing their mind and built a monster bridge instead. The point is they built a bridge with more lanes. Spending all that money to build a new bridge with the same number of lanes is organized crime.

  2. There’s nowhere to go! You’re just pouring more cars into New Westminster! It’s nice you don’t have trucks taking up 2 lanes now, and the bike lanes are unreal. I also feel like if I’m on the bridge during an earthquake I could possibly live.

    1. That is ridiculous. You take Kingsway into Vancouver. Some clowns said the same thing about the Port Mann. As long as we cater to that lunacy we will always be in bondage to criminals.
