Tsunami warnings after Russian earthquake

OK this is the geology guy I subscribe to. People were forwarding all kinds of Tsunami warnings and I said Russia and Japan might get one but we won't. It's on the other side of the ocean. My understanding of Tsunamis is that they occur after an earthquake in the ocean. As the moving water approaches shore, the water moves forward but the sea bottom gets shallower driving the wave up in height.

I saw some videos being shared of an earthquake shaking homes in Russia. I'm like OK is this the same earthquake or a previous one because we were told this one happened in the ocean and earthquakes that happen on land don't create tsunamis. The west coast of Vancouver Island could quite possibly face a tsunami because it is completely exposed. 

Vancouver is not exposed. If a tsunami hit Vancouver, Vancouver Island would take the brunt of that energy. Vancouver could get a swell like Fukushima around Vancouver Island but not a giant wave like Indonesia got. The Indonesia tsunami was terrifying. Fukushima wasn't. 

Fukushima was very deceptive. It wasn't a huge wave it was a swell. It didn't look that bad. When people saw it they stated walking away and people filming it were shouting run! It wasn't a huge wave but it had a lot of energy and did a lot of damage. 

Which once again shows nuclear energy is not green and is not safe. They are still releasing radioactive water into the ocean from that previous accident. All that radiation takes thousands of years to decompose. Releasing it into the ocean effects everything. "Treated" water. It's not sewage it's radiation. 

Vancouver could get a mayor earthquake that would reduce it to ruble. Richmond would sink because it's a delta built on sand. Surrey would burn like Maui with the water mains being cut off. So we do have things to worry about and prepare for.
