CTV is reporting that "Calgary will soon be the home of Alberta’s new provincial police force, Premier Danielle Smith announced Wednesday. Smith said the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service is not meant to replace the RCMP or any other police service. 'It will work alongside existing branches of law enforcement to fill gaps and ensure that resources are used efficiently. And just like most other police services in the province, it will be run separately from the government, with civilian oversight,' she said."
"Sat Parhar has been appointed as the first chief of Alberta Sheriffs Police Service.
Parhar spent more than 25 years with the Calgary Police Service, and Smith says he has the right mix of experience and leadership to steer the new agency."
Alberta has ALERT which is a lot more effective than the BC CFSEU. In BC the CFSEU and IHIT are completely screwed. We need to audit their lying Police informant budgets.
Awesome. She may be saying that they will continue to work with the RCMP but this smells a lot like standing up a parallel organization, where once they are working, the province can show the Mounties the door.
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly possible. In the second video she said it was her proactive response to Ottawa's claim they might change the role of the RCMP. If Ottawa does that she wants to make sure Albertans are protected.
DeletePremier, Danielle Smith is playing her cards right. Now it’s BC’s turn. It looks like the Surrey RCMP will be completely gone within a year or two. They should have been thrown out a long time ago.
