Update: Over 110,000 Thursday June 5th; 142,000 June 9th
That's 4,000 humans and 138,000 bots in a single day.
I've sure noticed a surge in bot traffic on my blog lately. When my blog was at it's peak, it was getting 10 to 12 thousand hits a day every day for years. Then the gang war peaked and so did the interest. Over the years my traffic has been holding steady at 4 thousand hits a day every day. Until the bots.
Over the past year I've noticed surges in traffic over 20 thousand hits a day. I can tell they're just bots because there isn't a spike in specific blog post traffic just over all traffic.
The spike in traffic is always from a foreign country. Usually it's Singapore but today alone traffic is over 76 thousand in one day and most of those are from Vietnam. Of course bots can use VPNs so they could be from anywhere even here.
"Behind the scenes, bots hack, spam, scam, crawl and do whatever a human can do, on a bigger and automated scale. Good bots are little helping hands in our everyday lives. They include search engine crawlers (like Googlebot, that crawls sites and catalog the web), SEO tools or RSS readers. At the same time, bots are often used as tools for today’s cyber criminals."
"Over 90% of all web attacks (DDoS, click-fraud campaigns, web application threats, forum spam and contact form spam actions, etc.) are executed by bots nowadays. Not surprisingly, the distribution of the above-mentioned traffic of an average site is: 44% human, 27% good bots, 29% bad bots."
Beta Kit is reporting that "A recent report from cybersecurity company Imperva claims that more than half of all internet traffic now comes from non-human sources, or bots."
"That stat is worthy of discussion on its own, but I want you to focus on another one: over a third of all internet traffic is now bad bots—malicious automated actors."
"What are these bad actors doing online? Disinformation and defamation campaigns, targeting businesses and governments with ‘irregular warfare’ to manipulate markets and elections."
That nails it. We saw the private company in Israel that was bragging about hacking elections all over Africa. They would make fake social media profiles and use them to spam the Internet with political opinions.
I've made reference to the racist bots trying to promote racism and division. I was looking at posting videos on TikTok but decided against it. That's a Gen whatever thing. I did notice that for 20 bucks they would make your video instantly get over 2 thousand views. More money, more views so that's a scam.
It's like the politician in Turkey that became a TikTok sensation. Not hard to do when you're buying bot traffic. My videos don't get many views but I don't care. I'm not going to buy traffic. I think most of my readers are like me. We're busy. I'm not going to sit down and watch an hour long podcast.
When I was in high school they taught us about different writing styles. They explained that a newspaper is written in a different format than a book. A book is read cover to cover. A newspaper article is not. A newspaper article is written with most of the facts in the first line or paragraph. The further you read, the more facts you get. The idea is if people stop reading half way through, they at least get most of the important facts first.
My blog's kind of like that. Sometimes I do deep dives like a columnist but compared to lengthy podcasts, my blog posts are short and factual. Sometimes I throw out some long winded podcasts in case someone has time to listen to them on their way home from work or during lunch.
For the most part I just want the facts. I think most of the people who read my blog are the same way. That's why my blog gets a lot of traffic but my videos don't. Aside from the fact that I'm ugly as f*ck but we won't get into that. I ain't no pretty boy who gets his eyebrows done at Merle Norman's. All those prissy little b*tches make me sick.
I am excited about my upcoming interview with Paul Palango about his new book kicking off my new series on the Nova Scotia Mass murders. I will mix in a few blog posts to just get the important facts out for those who don't have the time.
I remember watching a couple of Candace Owen's videos and I was like get to the f*cking point. Spit it out. I don't want to have to listen for an hour to get one point. I don't have time for that and I think most people don't either. Blogs may be old but we're here to stay. So get your game on and your facts out
Interesting stats. Not in a good way.
ReplyDeleteNo they're not. I'm not sure what the bad bots do but we've seen what the political interference bots do.
DeleteSpeaking of gang wars, I’m surprised you’re not covering the shooting in Toronto yesterday. Learn the teams and the players. These guys are world famous. Probably get some big traffic again if you report on Top5
ReplyDeleteI saw SixAK_TV said he heard a rapper named top 5 was shot during a Live stream. I just wanted to wait for confirmation that it was him.
DeleteSounds like a publicity stunt. That's the guy that videoed himself taking his ankle bracelet off when he didn't have to wear one. Poser.
DeleteNo, the ankle monitor video at wonderland is a reference to when he cut it off a few years ago and went on the run in USA. The chain he’s holding was stolen and they got it back. He’s taunting the cops and his enemies. Guy has a death wish. He’s popular tho, interesting character
DeleteHe's a poser. I have no interest. He's a legend and in his own mind.
DeleteAi bots are ramping up their scraping of the web to train & build their LLM's
ReplyDeleteSupposedly A.I. is starting to show signs of self awareness. Uh-oh.
