Gang shootout at Seattle Food Festival

CBC is reporting that "There were at least three suspects involved in a shootout at a crowded food festival near Seattle's Space Needle over the weekend, police said Monday. One of them was among those killed in the violence.

In a document filed in juvenile court in Seattle, where a 15-year-old arrested in the case waived his initial appearance Monday, police said they believe there were at least three suspects, rather than two: the 15-year-old; an acquaintance who died at the scene; and "at least one other unknown suspect."

"Nicole Powell, the Seattle Police Department's assistant chief of investigations, told a news conference Monday afternoon that investigators believe the shooting may have been gang-related, with two groups firing at each other. Powell said the teen who was arrested and the 19-year-old who died were associates."

    2. I don't think Seattle has a very large gang presence any more. When I was in south Seattle back in the /80's we were dealing with Crips and Bloods networking up from LA as well as Disciples and Vice Lords networking from Chicago. I don't think the Chicago gangs ever really got intrenched in Seattle. It was mostly Crips.

Now Google maps will show you a few small areas of gang involvement. These 74 Hoovers appear to be a new name for Crips like Driftwood Crips or Hoover Crips. Google claims that since the Hoover Crips were beefing with other Crips they dropped the name Crips.

Fun fact, it appears that Larry Hoover was the founder of the Disciples in Chicago but is not affiliated with the Hoovers. The Hoovers are named after Hoover street in LA. They actually started in the /60's before Crips and Bloods and right now it appears they are beefing with everybody in LA. That might be spilling over to Seattle.
