Gerry Hutch candidate for Dublin Central byelection

The Irish Times is reporting that "Veteran criminal Gerry Hutch has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the Dublin Central byelection. Hutch, who came close to winning the fourth and final seat in the 2024 general election, is among the names listed on the Dublin City Returning Officer’s website as contesting the May 22nd election."

There's been a lot of talk about Daniel Kinahan's assets being seized in Dubai was well as the Kinahan Hutch feud. As I said at the time, these are all new names to me. 

I was in Ireland at the end of the /80's. I'm going to have to look into who's who and what's what. Google AI claims that the Kinahan group are accused of controlling over 30% of the European cocaine market. 

Yet Google AI admits there's a contradiction surrounding the allegations involving the Hutch family. The people see him as a Robin Hood of sorts. The police accusing him of being a drug dealer despite the fact that he appears to be anti drugs. 

If Gerry Hutch is trying to run for office, it doesn't look like they want to be active drug dealers so they aren't a rival. So what's the Kinahan / Hutch feud about? Somebody slept with someone sister ten years ago? I'm going to have to look into this. If they can make the peace then everyone can make some cheddar. 

The BBC is reporting that "Encrypted texts and tracker devices seized by Gardaí (Irish police) are key in the Republic of Ireland's evidence against a senior figure in the international Kinahan crime gang." More encrypted messages from another FBI honey pot. 

The BBC also reported that "After the failed attack, one associate texts: 'We have to change tactics mate' and McGovern replies: '100pc or all going to jail with stitch ups mate.'"

It's been over 25 years since I've been to Ireland but I don't remember the term mate being common there. Very common in England or Australia but not Ireland. Maybe it's changed. 

I tried to look up which political party Gerry Hutch was with to see if he was Provisional or INLA. It's not Sinn Féin, Fianna Fáil or the Fine Gael. He's independent, unaffiliated. Well that makes him a wild card so it does. He displays a wise balance.

Right now he's just encouraging people to get registered to vote. I don't think anyone cares how many properties he owns. I think people care about his position on the issues which are sound.
