Remember Remember the 5th of November. Nope. That's not it. Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. They call it Veterans Day in the US but they also celebrate Memorial Day in the US on the last Monday of May. Remembrance Day is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month commemorating the Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War.
That was the war to end all wars. So we had hoped. Yet the putative terms of that agreement gave rise to Hitler and the Second World War. The Holocaust occurred during the Second World War. The slogan lest we forget serves as a reminder that our freedom was bought with a price.
After the Second World War came the Vietnam war and the Korean War resisting the military expansion of Communism. After that, pretty much every other war was about oil not freedom.
In 2011 I made a post entitled From Flanders Fields in France to Opium Fields in Afghanistan: Maggie, what have we done? It was from Pink Floyd's Final Cut Requiem for a post war dream.
Right now all eyes are on the Ukraine. As RFK said that war never should have happened. NATO expansion and the military industrial complex has ushered in an era of war profiteering which in itself impoverishes civilians. Some of the points RFK made are concerning.
Adding to RFK's concerns I have singled out the oil wars in favor of the Saudi monopoly which gouges consumers and drives inflation. That is Haram. Then there's 9/11 and Gaza. Was 9/11 an inside job? Of course it was. Was October 7th an inside job? Of course it was.
Both events were orchestrated to justify war profiteering and the erosion of civil liberty.
There is indeed a time for all things. A time for war and a time for peace. I don't think there's ever a time for lies but I do think there's a time for lies to come to an end because as Martin Luther King pointed out, no lie can live forever. Benjamin Netanyahu is a bad man. So is Narendra Modi. That's all I have to say about that. Now is the time to confront the lies and foster peace. That's what time it is. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.
Haram it may be, but human hypocrisy and greed "Trumps" the ideologies and dogma's we say we follow.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. The history of all conflict isn't a class struggle it's greed.
DeleteYup and that's why Karl Marx was full of shit. "Class struggle" my ass. Just greedy fu*ks who want free stuff and don't care if it actually belongs to someone else who earned it. "Redistribution of wealth" with them doing the re-distributing. It's amazing anyone tolerated this shit for so long.
ReplyDeleteSomeone mentioned the Red Scorpions today.
ReplyDeleteA solid silent minority?
