American Companies create Canadian jobs

Just to follow up on Trump's egg tariffs I wanted to point out the obvious. American companies create Canadian jobs. I keep getting messages from the Harley Davidson dealer asking if I'm still interested in a Fat boy. I said yes but I'm going to wait until I move so I don't have to pay to transport it with all our stuff.

OK so Harley Davidson is an American company but everyone that works at the local Harley dealership are Canadians. Likewise, I work at Costco. Technically Costco is an American company but what does that means? All the stores and distribution outlets employ Canadians. We sell a lot of Canadian products. This once again demonstrates how tariffs and trade wars are self defeating and shoot ourselves in the foot.

Likewise we buy things from China. Importing those goods creates jobs in Canada. To start with at the docks. Working on the docks is a good well paying job. The same with working at CN on the railway. If we stopped importing goods, we would lose all those high paying jobs.

One of the barometers of a strong economy is the employment rate. Trade wars lower the employment rate and in so doing reduce tax revenue. Which again shoots our self in the foot. This is why we have to calm down and think about this rationally not emotionally. Protective nationalism is a dead end street.

There are two aspects of nationalism. As Candace Owens said, there's nothing wrong with being proud of your country. However, there is another aspect of nationalism and that is the political ideology of fascism.

Now there's two aspects of fascism. Gassing Jews was just one aspect. The other aspect of fascism is the political ideology of nationalism which is very narrow minded protectionism.

Trump isn't promoting the kind of nationalism that makes you proud of your country. Trump is promoting the kind of nationalism that leads to fascism. Hitler tried to expand his territory just like Trump wants to. That nationalism is fascism.

NAFTA Chapter 11 compensation awards was bad. Trade agreements that take away a country's sovereignty are bad but so are tariffs. Tariffs are taxes. Excessive taxes are bad. They are also self defeating. If I raise taxes, businesses leave and I have less tax revenue than before I raised taxes.

Mark Carney and the far left love Trump's trade war because it's given them a reason to exist. Mark Carney loves tariffs because he loves taxes. Mark Carney has been obsessed his entire career with the carbon tax. Why is that?

Carbon tax is just another world for tax. It's just another excuse to raise taxes. Just like tariffs. Mark Carney loves tariffs because he loves taxes. Yet excessive taxes slow down the economy and ultimately reduce tax revenue. It also drives up inflation.

  1. Well, it's a bit early to celebrate yet, a lot of work yet to be done, and it will be a bumpy ride, we can't realistically expect that all the people responsible for trying to sell out both Americans AND Canadians will just roll over and give up. What we have now, with Trump for the Americans and the wave of opposition building to Carney trying to slide into the PM's chair without standing for election, is hope. And hope always dies last.
