Imperial Metals Update: Stop the Lies
When a corporation like Imperial Metals lies in court, that is called perjury. When they lie to the media they call it good business. B.C. gov warns against drinking water in path of tailings pond spill. “Boiling will not help,” the government said in an update Thursday. Boiling the water will not help because it's not a parasite or a germ, it's a metal. Boiling water will not get the lead out. Or the arsenic. Or the mercury. Eating fish filled with mercury will poison you. This is a tributary to the Fraser river in a salmon spawning ground. The water is not drinkable. This much mercury will poison a 20 acre lake. Sue them in court.
As soon as the dam broke, the first two lies were instantaneous. They were implemented with the malicious intent to minimize the extent of the damages and evade legal liability with regards to criminal negligence. The first bold faced lie was from Imperial Metals president Brian Kynoch. "If you asked me two weeks ago if this could have happened, I would have said it couldn't." We have two witnesses and a documented environmental report that proves that was a bold faced lie. "This is a gut-wrenching experience, I can assure you it is for me," he responded. "I don't know why it happened." That was the first lie.
The second lie was like unto it. Imperial Metals president Brian Kynoch said "It's very close to drinking water quality, the water in our tailings," he said. "There's almost everything in it but at low levels.... No mercury, very low arsenic and very low other metals." That is simply untrue. The water in the tailing pools was full of lead, arsenic and mercury. That is why they were held in a tailing pond and not released into the waterways.
A summary of material dumped into the tailings pond filed last year with Environment Canada listed 326 tonnes of nickel, over 400,000 kilograms of arsenic, 177,000 kilograms of lead and 18,400 tonnes of copper and its compounds. According to preliminary data from Environment Canada’s 2013 National Pollutant Release Inventory, the Mount Polley mine disposed of 406,122 kilograms of arsenic in 2013, 177,041 kg of lead and 3,114 kg of mercury. “Mercury, lead and arsenic are just three of the substances found within the pond,” adds Louis “The environmental impact on the river systems and surrounding land will not be truly felt for some time.”
Gerald MacBurney, a foreman at the dam for seven years before he recently quit, said the dam was breached last May and that weakened the whole system. Yet the criminal negligence began long before that. Imperial Metals president Brian Kynoch lied and said that never happened when clearly it did. Kynoch said the dam had never before failed, although there had been some overflow into the Hazeltine Creek in May. That's the point. Toxic water leaked out of the tailing pond before.
Bev Sellers, chief of the Xatsull First Nation, said warnings in a 2011 environmental report about the pond, commissioned by her band, the Williams Lake First Nation and Imperial Metals Corp., were not heeded by the company. Ex-engineers also warned tailings pond was getting large. A wastewater treatment process should have been put in.
An environmental consulting firm says it first raised concerns in 2011 about the Mount Polley mine. Brian Olding, president of Brian lding & Associates, said his company was hired three years ago to review and evaluate a report produced by Imperial Metals. The report was seeking permission from the B.C. Ministry of Environment to dispose of water from the mine's tailings pond into the nearby Hazeltine Creek. This time the company was trying to shift the blame to the BC Government for not giving them permits to release small amounts of toxic water into the waterways. The point is, the water has to be treated first before that can happen. It's not the BC Government's fault the company refused to treat the water first.
Instead of following the recommendations of the environmental report, the recklessness continued filling it with more water. Instead of treating the water they spent their available cash on hand on a new site at the Red Chris mine south of Dease Lake to continue the reckless practice of mining beyond their means. Instead of treating the water they just kept building bigger and bigger tailing ponds. Just like with the oil sands water. Those tailing ponds are leaking too. Putting a tar sands tailing pool right beside a river is irresponsible.
The solution is simple
The solution is simple. Imperial Metals must cease and desist mining until they start treating the toxic water they create. It's that simple. Most of the toxins can be removed by distilling the water. Yet even that won't get rid of the mercury but Reverse Osmosis will and that's too costly and time consuming so instead of that they spend a few dollars bribing politicians and First Nation Bands to give them permission to mine recklessly.
Sue them
The people of British Columbia need to join a class action law suit suing Imperial Metals for damages and for criminal negligence. A cease and desist order needs to be produced on their mines until they start treating the toxic water they create instead of just putting it in a tailing pond with the hope that the BC Government will let them release small amounts of toxic untreated water into the water ways. This class action must be separate from and in addition to any class action from the First Nations communities that agreed to the mine. We the people who live and reside in British Columbia have an equal claim in the courts for damages and an equal right to a cease and desist order. This class action needs to comprise the residents of BC as well as the commercial fishermen of BC and everyone else who has been adversely affected by this spill which pretty much includes everyone. As tax payers we are in essence shareholders in the province.
Trade agreements that destroy sustainability
This environmental disaster is a wake up call on another front. These insane trade agreements that have nothing to do with free trade and everything to do with removing our civil liberty. First it started off with NAFTA Chapter 11 compensation awards where corporations can sure governments for creating laws that inhibit their ability to make a profit. One of the many absurd examples in NAFTA chapter 11 was how a company successfully sued the government for banning them from dumping (PCP) toxic waste. That absurd award has absolutely nothing to do with free trade and building the economy. It has everything to do with crippling the economy and removing democracy.
Then Gordon Campbell's corupt BC Rail Liberals came up with TILMA. Another insane trade agreement that makes it illegal for any level of government to make a law that would inhibit a corporation's ability to make a profit. For example, under TILMA, Imperial Metals can sue the BC Government if they stop them from operating because of their recklessness. That closed door agreement has removed our democratic system. Now they have expanded it and called it the New West Partnership Trade Agreement. Again it has nothing to do with free trade. It lets corporations destroy the environment at will. That agreement is in violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and needs to be challenged in the courts because they keep on doing it and expanding it.
Stephen Harper has the same thing with Communist China under FIPA. It's not about free trade it's about letting corporations remove our rights. This is reckless irresponsibility. Sustainable mining is not a eco terrorist term. It is good business. Preston Manning said being good stewards of the environment is the same as being fiscally irresponsible. We avoid debt so our children don't become in bondage to it. We protect the environment so our children have an economy to thrive in after we are dead and gone. Stephen Harper is falling. Finish him. Our civil liberty is at stake.
It's not that we're opposed to business. Everyone wants jobs. Everyone wants a thriving economy. Everyone supports business. We support sustainable business. Canadian mining companies have a horrible reputation in Columbia and around the world for being reckless and irresponsible. This needs to stop. As investors and consumers we can do better. Remember the Alberta Wheat Pool by second Narrows bridge? Selling China wheat instead of coal is good business. Wheat doesn't damage the environment. That is progressive.
In Washington State, Canadian mining giant Teck Resources Ltd. has admitted in a U.S. court that effluent from its smelter in southeast British Columbia has polluted the Columbia River in Washington for more than a century. A Washington state woman filed a class-action lawsuit against Teck Resources (TSX:TCK.B), claiming toxic pollutants from the company’s smelter in southeastern British Columbia are to blame for her breast cancer diagnosis and other health ailments. A Washington state judge ruled the Canadian company is liable for the cost of cleaning up the contamination of the river south of the border. It's not just the cost of clean up, it's legal damages. Canadian Smelter Spills 25,000 Liters of Chemical Solution into the Columbia River.
In Costa Ricca a Canadian mining company sued the the Costa Rican government over the canceled Las Crucitas gold mining concession. The concession was revoked in 2010 following environmental concerns and doubts about the concession’s legality. The corupt company claimed that Costa Rica violated the Costa Rica-Canada Bilateral Investment Treaty when an Administrative Appeals Court revoked its mining concession in San Carlos, Alajuela, in 2010 and sued for a billion dollars in damages. The Costa Rican government was forced to let them continue their hazardous practices. These trade agreements remove our democratic sovereignty.
Colombian town forcibly relocated due to air contamination from open-pit coal mining. So why are we shipping coal through our ports in Surrey? Just like asbestos. That is not progressive. Natural gas is much cleaner burning than coal.
Threat of Mercury Poisoning Rises With Gold Mining Boom. So now we have our military protecting reckless mining companies helping them destroy the environment in other countries around the world. These are dark days so they are. The corporation is corrupt. Corporate Communism is the biggest current threat to our civil liberty known to man.
This is how criminals perpetuate fraud. First they form a corporation. In fact they form many corporations or shell companies to hide their tracks and shield themselves from legal liability. If you file for personal bankruptcy that stays on your file for seven years. Not if you create a corporation that goes bankrupt after committing fraud. That's why the same criminals get away with doing the same thing over and over again.

Two dead in Chilliwack shooting
1130 News is reporting that "two people are dead after an early morning shooting in Chilliwack. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has confirmed three people were shot at a home on Gore Avenue. Two died while a third was taken to the hospital." Everyone's pretty much reporting the same thing now. No names or details yet. CBC posted a local map. Drug related crime has risen in Chilliwack lately and Stefan (Harjit) Singh Kondolay was shot dead in Chilliwack last month.

Environmental disaster at Mount Polley Mine
This is why residents of British Columbia do not trust Oil companies like Enbridge or mining companies like Imperial Metals. They don't give a flying f*uck about the environment. They only care about cutting corners and censoring the media.
Global is reporting that a breach of the tailings pond on Mount Polley Mine sent five million cubic metres of toxic waste into Hazeltine Creek, Quesnel Lake and Polley Lake, with fears it could spread far and wide in the coming days. That's an amount of water equivalent to about 2,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Local residents are calling it an environmental disaster. These are tributaries to the Fraser River. Everything is f*cked.
The waterways affected by the ban, which earlier included Quesnel Lake, Polley Lake, Hazeltine Creek and Cariboo Creek, now also include the entire Quesnel and Cariboo river systems right up to the salmon-bearing Fraser River. I've got a lot more to say about this but am too upset to talk.
The devastation up the lake is unbelievable
Mount Polley mine tailings breach is a wake-up call
Imperial Metals are the lunatics that want to blow up Catface mountain and turn it into an open pit mine. They want to blow the top off a pristine mountain in a protected biosphere and let all the mess and toxic metals fill the Claquot sound. Investors do not invest in Imperial Metals. They are a bad investment. Their reckless greed is shameful. Boycott them.
Criminal Negligence
The Globe and Mail is reporting that Gerald MacBurney, a foreman at the dam for seven years before he recently quit, said the dam was breached last May and that weakened the whole system. Yet the criminal negligence began long before that.

Drug Overdose at Boonstock Music Festival
News 1130 is reporting that 37 people have been taken to Penticton Regional Hospital in the last day, becoming sick while attending the Boonstock Music Festival. 80 people have been treated over the course of the weekend, and a woman in her 20′s from Alberta died Friday night from a suspected overdose. Grace Kucey with the Interior Health Authority says most ailments are drug or alcohol related, made worse when combined with the intense heat.
CTV is confirming that A 24-year-old Alberta woman died of a suspected drug overdose at Boonstock music festival in Penticton, B.C. this weekend. Local RCMP said at the time of the woman’s death that another 12 people had been treated for drug overdoses at Boonstock festival, and that two people were hospitalized and in critical condition.
That's a lot of drug overdoses. I doubt that many people would be doing heroin at a music festival. We need to come clean about what type of drug it is and talk about the likelihood of some bad drugs being out there. Police have ruled out foul play in the suspicious death at the Pemberton Music festival but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Update: As BF has pointed out there was 15 drug overdoses and two fatalities at a music concert in Toronto this week end as well. When they make reference to the party drug it sounds like they are referring to extacy (MDMA). Only since no one can get the real sassafras oil to make extacy anymore they find a substitute and make something else called PMMA or BZP that is way more toxic resulting in way more fatalities. Consumers need to realize that when they buy extacy now it's not extacy it's something else. That many overdoses is a concern for everyone.

Religion in the modern world
They say that religion and politics are the two subjects one should never discuss because they are so divisive. Yet they are of profound importance because they govern our civil liberty both in this life and in the life here after. Politicians start and end wars. Politicians support and oppose genocide. Politicians support and oppose civil liberty. Then there's the Devil. The author of slavery himself.
Some people say I don't believe in God. Do you believe in the devil? Do you believe in the existence of good and evil? Good and evil are empirical forces we can tangibly observe. Leaving religion aside, we can all concur that good and evil do exist. My mother used to always say there is a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us so it behooves us to look for the good in each other.
Recently I was speaking with a few parents about teaching children about religion so they can choose for themselves when they get older. How are the kids going to be able to choose if we don't teach them anything to choose from? One parent said their spouse didn't like the bible because it was written by a man. They said they can't believe anything that's written by a man. I have a hard time accepting that logic. The Constitution and the Charter of Rights were written by men. Those are inspired documents that protect our civil liberty. Clearly God can inspire men and women. Martin Luther King was certainly inspired.
It's somewhat ironic that the Hells Angels refer to their business meetings as church. Conducting business and betrayal of drug trafficking and prostitution is not godly. The top picture is of Adam Hall the Sergeant at Arms for the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Hells Angels and his co accused with devil horn implants and the number 666 tattooed to his forehead. Adam Hall has been accused of forced prostitution and of murdering a witness that was going to testify against him. His co accused looks like he needs some professional help.
I realize that 666 also means filthy few fellowship but this associate is not a patch holder and everyone knows that 666 has another meaning as well. Vincent Price's eloquent introduction to Iron Maiden's song 666 the number of the beast reaffirms the given that the number 666 also refers to the devil. It baffles me how any intelligent being would possibly brag about supporting evil and the father of all lies. AC/DC once said if you're evil, you're a friend of mine.
I have a hard time accepting that logic. Good and evil exist. Rape and murder is evil. Lying is evil. Betraying your friends for money is evil. If you do any of those things you can't be a friend of mine. Anyone who does any one of those things is untrustworthy. Embracing that is counter productive.
The essence of religion is treating others the way you want to be treated. That is the golden rule. It's common sense really. When I was young I enjoyed studying Zen as part of the martial arts. Alan Watts once said that the literal translation of the Greek word sin was to miss the mark. He said that if our purpose in life is to find happiness, then to sin would be to miss that mark like an archer misses his target. When we sin we do things that take us away from inner peace and lasting happiness.
I'm somewhat cynical of the hypocrisy and intolerance in organized religion yet I am a big supporter of the freedom of religion and agree that most religions teach us to improve our lives and treat each other the way we want to be treated. For me the existence of God is a given. It is scientific. The third law of thermo dynamics declares that in a closed system order does not increase all by itself.
If I throw a pile of wood and a bunch on nails on my front lawn, it won't magically build a house all on it's own in 300 or 3,000 years. In fact the opposite is the case. In 300 or a 3,000 years my house will begin to decay and fall apart. It's like the Mona Lisa. We cannot deny it exists and the thought that paint scattered across the canvass all by itself is rather absurd. Paintings have painters. Houses have builders. Creation has a creator.
Today I heard a reformed heroin addict who has been clean for 40 years cite Voltaire's argument who said when he sees a clock or a watch he knows those items were created they didn't just happen by chance. I remember many years ago going to the British museum in London England. I saw the skull of the missing link between man and ape which "proved" the "theory" of evolution.
They actually only had three small skull fragments they found from three different locations that fit on the back of the skull. They dated the fragments and said that because it comes from the time period where we think the missing link should have existed, they reconstructed a skull from those three fragments of what they thought the missing link might look like. Only they weren't reconstructing it based on other skulls from missing links they found. They created a brand new skull based on what they thought it might look like. When I saw that as a young man searching for truth I was pissed. That is not science. That is nonsense. All these years we were taught that was science when in reality it is anything but.
I have no problem if someone embraces the theory of evolution. Just remember it's a theory and is in reality very far from science. It's hard for me to conceive that the claim that man crawled out of the ocean, evolved from apes and ceases to exist when he dies is anything but intelligent or scientific. When we die and we realize we are still conscious of our surroundings, we will then know that teaching is false. To me it just seems so empty and incomplete.
I will be the first person to admit that I tend to trust atheists more than I trust many religions people simply because when an atheist does good they aren't doing it to get a reward, they are doing it because they believe it's the right thing to do. I find that admirable. With or without religion, with or without God or the Devil, Good and Evil do exist in our world and we are free to choose between the two. Christians are taught not to judge others but we are taught to judge between good and evil. Like it our not, life does not end at death and as we sow so shall we reap.

Montreal gang leader shot dead
CBC is reporting that Ducarme Joseph, the leader of the 67 gang tied to the crips was shot dead last night in Montreal. This is significant because he is without question a big player with a long criminal history in the Montreal drug scene. He was very wealthy and made some serious coin.
It's also interesting because August 2012 Chenier Dupuy, leader of a north Montreal street gang called Bo-Gar was shot dead. The Bo Gars were affiliated with the bloods who under normal circumstances are enemies of the crips. It's also interesting how that murder was also tied directly to the Hells Angels.
Greg Wooley was a Caribbean brother that Mom Boucher the white supremacist got to sell drugs to all of the crips in Montreal. There was a big meeting between the African street gangs in Montreal where Greg was trying to convince everyone to unite and sell drugs for the Hells Angels. Chenier told him to f off and slapped him in front of everyone. Greg was small Chenier was big. Not long after that Chenier was shot dead.
MSN News claimed the crips were also known as the blues. I've never heard the crips referred to that before. That sounds more like a jazz band. They must have meant the crips are associated with the colour blue while the bloods are associated with the colour red. Those gangs started in LA where they were bitter rivals. Snoop Dogg was affiliated with the crips while Tupac was affiliated with the bloods.
Bo Gars is taken from the French. Bo being slang for beau which means handsome and Gars being short for garcon the French word for boys. So the name of the gang means handsome boys but since we wouldn't really say that on the street in English a better translation would be hot guys. The point is the Hells Angels were indeed directly involved with these gangs and the reason Ducarme Joseph was so wealthy is because he was working for the Hells Angels. At least at one point he was. The fact that he might have acquired a new supplier might have been the reason why he was shot however he could have just as easily been shot by a rival. Yet if it was a rival you'd think they would have shot Wooley not Joseph. This sounds more like Wooley pulling a Mom Boucher and eliminating political opposition to me.

856 Not
The Globe and Mail is reporting that B.C.’s anti-gang unit says it has arrested three high-ranking members of the 856 gang. Only there is no such thing as a high ranking member of the 856 gang. As Kim Bolan has pointed out, the 856 gang takes it's name from the area code to Aldergrove. No one in their right mind would name themselves after the area code for Aldergrove. We jokingly refer to the 604 but that's just a joke. The 856 is even lamer than the 604. Pttbull refers to the 305 in Florida. If you want to quote a New York, LA or Miami area code so be it but no one trying to be hard core would ever name themselves after an area code from Aldergrove.
Nevertheless, this is an interesting turn of events. It shows that Len Pelletier was wrong when he said there is no 856 gang any more when he drove his car into a tree after being shot at by them. Yet 2 1/2 kilograms of cocaine and 3.8 kilograms of crystal meth isn't chump change. My question is where did they get it from? It either came from the Hells Angels or the UN and my guess is the Hells Angels.
It certainly wouldn't be the first time the Hells Angels took the name of some other group for one of their puppet clubs. Case in point, the Independent Soldiers and the Red Scorpions. Interestingly enough one blog reader sent in a comment from Kim Bolan's blog where one of her blog readers claimed that the new 856 gang is run by Len Pelletier's son Caylen Pelletier. They referred to the 856 gang as Peltier's puppets. Now that is worth looking in to.
It's also worth noting that the picture from the police press conference is of many bags of "buffer." 2 kilos of cocaine would fit in 2 bags. All those bags aren't cocaine they are of a cutting agent that's used to deworm cattle - Levamisole. The Langley Advanced referred to it by it's street name superbuff. 44 kilos worth. Levamisole is used to cut crack because it waters down the crack while keeping it's solid form hence the term rock. It gives humans flesh eating disease. This is another example of greed. Watering down crack with a cutting agent that rots your flesh.
Granite Falls Deep Cove
I took a break and paddled the kayak up Deep Cove to Granite Falls on Wednesday. They say the wind often picks up around noon which was fine because it was at my back heading up the cove. I camped overnight and headed back early in the morning before the wind picked up. The stars at night were pretty awesome. Getting away from all the city lights and seeing the brightness of the endless stars is very humbling. Makes you feel pretty insignificant so it does. The universe is much bigger than you and I.
Vancouver is nice but it's most certainly not the nicest place on earth. The fecal counts are very high in all our beaches right now. Whenever I go kayaking in the Lower mainland I always see a seal. This time I saw tons. People wonder why our salmon counts are down. No doubt the fact that we stopped clubbing the seals has been a factor. With so many seals everywhere that's clearly going to impact the salmon counts. The seals are eating them all.
You can only get there by boat. This is silver falls on the way there.
This is looking up the cove from Raccoon Island.
There's more to life than greed and betrayal. Peace.

Canadian arrested in Costa Rica
As one blog reader pointed out Inside Costa Rica is reporting that a Canadian wanted by Interpol has been arrested. They believe it's Cory Vallee from the UN - not.
Update: Well third time lucky. Turns out it wasn't Cory either it was Michel Emond. He's from Quebec and is wanted to producing / trafficking crystal meth. A Quebec paper states he a is son of the late Richard "Crow" Emond who was a member of the Hells Angels.
Richmond drive by shootings / Maple Ridge
The Richmond Review is reporting that there were two drive by shootings in Richmond Monday night with as many as 24 shots fired. No one was injured. Police claim it was targeted but didn't look gang related. Scan BC reported that #MapleRidge #RCMP were on scene with a male shot in the abdomen last night at 10300 240 St. Apparently the victim has died in hospital.
