Coolio dies at age 59

The BBC is reporting that "Stars including Michelle Pfeiffer and Snoop Dogg have been paying tribute to the US rapper Coolio who has died at the age of 59. He was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend's LA house, his manager Jarez Posey told US media."

"Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, won a Grammy for the 1995 track Gangsta's Paradise, which led the soundtrack for Dangerous Minds. Pfeiffer, who starred in the movie, said she was heartbroken at the news. The exact cause of his death on Wednesday has not yet been revealed. However Mr Posey told TMZ, which first reported the news, that paramedics believed he may have had a cardiac arrest."

  1. RIP. I always saw him as the least messed up of the people who advocated for (or about) that lifestyle. I got the impression that he had learned from some of his mistakes and wanted the shorties not to make them. Calvin Broadus on the other hand, would have been doing life at Pelican Bay if not for a lucky break in court one day. There's a reason he never discusses that, no statute of limitations on 187. "Snoop claimed in a 2006 interview with Rolling Stone magazine that unlike other hip hop artists who had superficially adopted the pimp persona, he was an actual professional pimp in 2003 and 2004". The only place for a pimp is the local landfill.
