Shootings in Kamloops and Williams Lake - Update

BC Local News is reporting that "Police have one suspect in custody and have lifted a lockdown order following a shooting incident at a residence in Williams Lake early Monday morning." It was quite a dramatic lockdown where the schools were closed after several shots were fired into a home. As a result they caught the suspect.

I don't think we could have a lockdown in Surrey every time there was a shooting. We wouldn't be able to get anything done. Congrats on the arrest. Castanet is reporting that shots were fired into a residence on early Sunday morning in Kamloops. Two men have been arrested. Both of whom are known to the police.

Big city drug violence moving into smaller rural communities. It's all about the greed.

Update: I'm not sure if this is related but the William Lake Tribune reported earlier this month that "Three suspects were arrested Friday in relation to the disturbance on Second Avenue Wednesday, March 30, evening in Williams Lake that left a 20-year-old dead." Neil Cory Billyboy, Lashway Andrew Lulua (also known also Lashway Merritt) and Charissa Dayne Destiney Sulin were all charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, unlawful discharge of a firearm with intent to wound/disfigure and breach of probation order after a gang related home invasion on On March 30. "Twenty-year-old Indi Johnny died in hospital as a result of a gunshot wound following the incident. Johnny had been released from prison just one week prior to his death." The question is, what were acused murderes doing out on bail?

  1. it isn't all about greed. there are a number of social, economic, and political issues at play here also.

it is no surprise drugs and gangs have moved into Williams Lake. that was coming for years, I'd est. since the forest industry went down back in the 1970s, early 1980s.

There is also the issue of market share when it comes to drug dealing. Many dealers/suppliers, etc. have been frozen out in the lower mainland market and O.K. market, so they do as all "business" people do, they go looking for new markets.

The various levels of government ought to have seen this coming for years, just as they should have seen the need for more schools in Surrey. I'm sure they did see it coming but ignored it. Politicians and a lot of people simply don't want to deal with issues. They think its just the people on the margins of society. Then one day the drug dealer is living in their area and their kids are involved. By that time its too late.

The RCMP sends new recruits to rural areas so they simply don't have the experience. In my opinion, the province just doesn't care. they make "noise" about how they care, but really, this is the government which has let one in five children live in poverty for the last 15 yrs, had the highest rate of child poverty in Canada for 14 out of the past 15 yrs. 500,000 people in B.C. don't have family doctors, so we can all come to our own conclusions.

Expect more violence in Williams Lake and no support from the province. the mayor and council are not equipped to deal with the issues although they will try. Poverty is at play and a lack of opportunities.

    1. I agree that if someone is out of work or is struggling to make ends meet in the high cost of today's housing market they can certainly be tempted to get involved in the drug trade. However, when you start shooting rival drug dealers because you want a monopoly on the market, that is greed.

  2. I don't think it has anything to do with struggling to make ends meat at all. I just think these people think its cool to be a thug.

    1. You're absolutely right. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Back in the day an inner city kid had a choice between a life working minimum wage at McDonalds or riding around in limos wearing gold chains. The temptation was real.

Now often that isn't the case. Take a look at the Bacon brothers. They were spoilt brat yuppies who had it all and wanted more. They didn't have a clue about what living in the hood and growing up poor meant.

  3. there are social, economic, and political issues at play here and it isn't just about people being out of work and struggling to make ends meet. there are people who are so marginalzed in our society that they no longer view themselves as part of it or will never be able to join. their value system becomes corroded by life. For some this begins at a young age and doesn't get any better.

Any good teacher can tell you children who are at risk but there is nothing there to assist these children or so little or takes so long to get into a program, it eventually past the best before date.

Little to no money is front loaded into the system to deal with children at risk. so we pay later. In my opinion the majority of politicians don't care. If they did, things wouldn't be the way they are.

There are programs in Surrey which send children home with food for the weekend, their families are so improverished. I'm sure there are similar conditions in Williams lake. How did we get to this place, in such a wealthy country? Politicians and a lot of others just don't care or are too busy with other more "important" things.

In my opinion once young people enter gangs or the drug culture there is a significant shift in what is right or wrong. Drive by shootings to many may simply not be a big thing or simply not wrong. they are attempting to achieve their goals in their world. we have no one to blame but ourselves. We didn't "front load" the system so its come back to bite us in the butt. The "greed" the shooters display is there because of the social, economic and political issues society set up.

  4. Indian Outlaws have a brother gang in vancouver called the East Van Soldiers . Redd Alert doesnt get along with those guys. Redd Alert is also led by and mostly consists of Shuswap Natives from rezs around Kamloops. The leader of Redd Alert rivals the Kelowna Warriors comes from Williams Lake. Point being....I imagine Redd Alert and Warriors patch over the smaller gangs to make this more of a national problem...on the flipside....the smaller gangs might holdout. Gonna be interesting either way

    1. So once again the Hells Angels are at the root of the conflict. Redd Alert sell drugs for the Hells Angels. Once again it a fight between those who want to work for the Hells Angels and those who don't. Once again it is a display of violence to help the Hells Angels obtain a monopoly on the drug trade. Nothing has changed really.

  5. The real question....who will the I.O. patchover too...Redd Alert or the Warriors
