Christmas shopping in Surrey

I found this rather amusing. I’m out and about doing some Christmas shopping this morning heading down 104th towards Guildford. Then I see this big ass line up on the sidewalk like it’s a Boxing Day sale. I squint and think, isn’t that the gun store? They’re all lining up for a Christmas sale at the gun store?

I take a closer look and sure enough, they were all lined up waiting for the gun store to open. Now that is Christmas shopping in Surrey. Nothing like a new firearm or box of ammunition under the Christmas tree. When the line dies down I’ll have to check out what the sale is all about but I doubt they’re gonna have any merchandise left by the time I get there.

Turns out they had a one day sale advertized on their web site. 20% off cases of ammo and some blow out specials on some rifles. All the cases of 9 mm ammo were gone by 10:30 AM. Turns out there were guys lining up at 10:30 PM the night before. Surrrr ee.

  1. I think a big reason for this is people are stocking up on everything "Survival" due to the apparent end of the word event coming up in a few weeks. Same thing as the millennium.

  2. What the Zombie apocalypse? Isn't that ever weekend in Surrey? That does remind me to look for the planetary alignment though.

    1. The Zombie Apocalypse can be seen 365 days a year in the Lower East End. "Night of the Living Dead" for real.

    2. Indeed. When I found a link to some info on the stained glass at the Carnegie Centre, that's exactly how one tourist described it.

  3. The reason for the line-up, AK, is the Impossible cost of the ammo. As a kid, I could shoot my .22 all day long, at those old prices.

Now the cost, to say zero in your scope, is like $5.00/trigger-pull.

Folks are home re-loading, because ammo. is really out-of-bounds for a blue-collar...

  4. Five bucks a shot for a .22 is a bit unrealistic. There's that indoor gun range in Coquitlam that lets you use their guns on site. They make their money on the ammo. They have a .50 cal Dessert Eagle you can shoot for a buck a pop. .50 cal is a bit over the top for me. I prefer a .357 but 9 mm seems to be pretty popular there. Since it's an indoor range they can't use the big bore so they fire 9 mm out of rifles. As you say, a lot more people are reloading their own shells due to the costs. Like you say, I guess that's why it was such a crazy line up for the sale.

  5. I am totally surprised that not one local Media picked this up and interviewed some of the people in the line up to actually get their reasons for buying ammo or guns...
Is this a normal shopping Day in Surrey?

Good for you Agent K for taking pictures and writing about it, thank you for the warning :)

We are in a Survival Crisis but not due to "World ending" at least in my opinion, it wouldn't make sense to get all "fired" up with guns, why? so they can all shoot themselves before the world is going down?

Hunters for Animals need ammo, everybody else I would totally question their Motivation, haven't we had enough shootings in Surrey and the Lower Mainland that is Drug and Gang related?

And if the price is outrageous for ammo, it rolls back to GREED again, making (Animal Hunting) look criminal and inviting more Crimes, Run & Carried out by Criminals and the odd "other"

    just saying

    1. I just happened to stumble across it. Some people hunt. Some people just like to go to the gun range and blow sh*t up. I was amazed to see how many young women and staff parties were being held at the indoor gun range in Coquitlam. Others do indeed use it for criminal activity. Someone's not going to use a registered handgun to commit a crime but they might use ammo they bought over the table. Yet it is unlikely. Which leads me to wonder if police can and are doing forensics on shells found at the scene of these public gang executions. One execution in Surrey, the shooter just threw the gun down at the scene. He obviously wasn't worried about the gun being traced. I am wondering if there's a way to trace shell casings to place of purchase.

  6. Hey, I did not mean that .22's are now five bucks a shot. Those horrific prices are only for the big calibers...

    1. No worries. I thought five bucks a pop for .22 was a rip off. A buck a pop for a .50 cal is a rip off but since it's not something I'd use other than for a novelty so it doesn't really effect me. I am thinking 9 mm might be more affordable than .357 now. That's a down grade alright.

  7. There's another store in Vancouver that also has a sale that inspires similar lineups. Not a new thing.
