Three Canadians arrested in South Pacific cocaine seizure

Australian, New Caledonian and United States authorities have disrupted an international cocaine syndicate attempting to import an estimated 200 kilograms of cocaine into Australia from South America. New Caledonian authorities boarded the vessel on Saturday, 31 March 2012 and seized approximately 200kgs of cocaine and have charged three people with a range of offences.

The Vancouver Province is reporting the three arrested are Canadains from Keremeos - Gary Yuzik, Robert Stanley and his wife Cindy Stanley. This one breaks my heart. Gary Yuzik is the former owner of RE/MAX Keremeos Realty. A source told the Province Cindy Stanley was employed by Yuzik, and Yuzik "ran a profitable business into the ground" after buying RE/MAX Keremeos Realty from Penticton realtor Bill Barkhausen in 2007. Barkhausen said he has heard about the arrest of Yuzik and the Stanleys. "Gary did close the office and opened another real estate office in Okanagan Falls, which was also closed,"

Gary seems like a used car salesman. The part that breaks my heart is that Bob and Cindy seem like a really nice couple who have a really good relationship with their daughter. Money can't buy that. Now because they listened to a con mans scam they could be spending the rest of their life in prison. This is the reoccurring problem. All this hype about a huge drug bust and the real criminals just find another mule to take the fall while the real criminals remain untouched and unmoved.

Yet they are adults responsible for their own decisions. 200 kg is a lot of cocaine. That fills an awful lot of crack pipes and destroys an awful lot of lives. Why is it that BC is so involved in the Australian drug trade? We know the Hells Angels have set up shop and are taking over the drug trade there. Surely that has nothing to do with it.

  5. "Why is it that BC is so involved in the Australian drug trade?"

Whether Aussie blowcaine comes from Peru or BC, the answer is always the same; the Pacific Ocean.

That ocean makes a superhighway which is utterly un-patrolled. Nothing but water separates them & us. Australia, like us, has a giant coastline, even the very serious Australian navy can't come close to patrolling it all, eh...? That Ocean is the smugglers' ticket to the cash, the materialist life that is all they can imagine.

So sad; all James Coulter could dream of in his UN days was, "I could go to Robson street anytime, and buy $400 custom-made jeans. I could go out to the Keg 'n Cleaver every night." His exact words...that's all he aspired to; and for that, you did what you & the UN did? How sad what he said is, how utterly pathetic.

  6. Agent K;

Do you remember, that I was first to link to, & break the story of the gangster who had his motor-home bombed at Callaghan Junction, just south of Whistler? I built the campsite there, (now Forestry's TOP campsite province-wide) and know that exact area very well.

Well, mon cher, he's dead, been shot a couple of months back. I guess they didn't give up after the botched motor-home assasination. He was a much bigger player than we first thought.

No one but me, it seems, is aware of WHY the gangsters were at Whistler. It ain't to take in the scenery. Doc. Rogers up there said 40% of Whistler locals have a drug addiction. It's party central, I was a local up there for five years, the Ministry's top rep. @ Whistler valley. You can get way better prices for cocaine, pot, whatever, from the zillions of turistas. Now; who would control the extremely lucrative drug-trade @ Whistler, worth in the low millions/year? Your first guess will be the right one.

Couldn't handle the eternal pension that was scammed from fake disability...couldn't just enjoy retirement off of the canadian taxpayers dime to build and race demolition race cars and enjoy their thousands of dollars of month pouring into their bank accounts from the gov. disability retirement...nope...had to be greedy...had to want it all...the awesome vacations weren't enough...the awesome family and reputation and comfort wasn't enough...just had to roll the dice for opulence at the expense of everything...they were ratted out before they ever left port in south america...

  11. I'm sorry to hear that. No doubt prison in some foreign countries is less than desirable. I'm sure it's sad for the whole family.

  12. Well my dear Agent K, you certainly have a knack for understatement. ;) Please allow me to elaborate. The horror and terror that these people are suffering through is almost unimaginable to you or I. Gary User Ick (Yuzik) shouldn't even rot there and I have no use for him. Take a look at the first few quick shots of what a prison cell looks like in Noumea.

Below: Please read the second article down from a 14 year old girl who is just telling you about the city of Noumea...not its prison! :O

New Caledonia is a defenceless little podunk place. They don't have a navy that goes around looking for drug cartels and smugglers. In fact, that area is a well known drug smuggling alley and many smugglers have traversed it successfully. But the DEA agent in charge had the navy pick them out of the water once they had entered New Caledonian jurisdiction. I thought that to be a very malicious and cruel thing to do when they know fine well that New Caledonia is neither prepared for or used to this kind of thing (and they know fine well what Noumea prison is like). But the US Navy shows up with 3 captured Canadians and this is probably the most exciting thing New Caledonia has seen in an age. The Megalodon was wandering around all over place. If the DEA had picked them off in Australian waters, the Stanley's could have at least been put in a civilized, first world "western" jail. But I think what drew the ire of the DEA was the sheer gall of these rubes to flaunt such an enormous amount of product in the face of the U.S. Navy like there was no chance they could get caught at all. Gary probably fed them that line. And the Australians were pleased that they could take credit for the bust but had no desire to spend possibly hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, prosecuting and incarcerating Gary and the Stanleys for the rest of their lives. The only hope for the Stanleys now is to find someone powerful enough in New Caledonia willing to strike a deal with the Canadian gov. to let them serve their time here in Canada. But, if you have ever seen the Canadian gov's lack luster performance in dealing with any foreign govs in behest of their citizens, I would imagine the Stanleys are doomed. And yes Agent K, I too feel sad for their entire family. What a mess. :(

    ReplyDelete
  13. I do feel sorry for the entire family. Can't they apply to be transferred to a Canadian prison? As you say, I wouldn't even wish that on Gary despite the fact that he looks like the seize ball in the bunch. From what I recall seeing on facebook it looked like the parents had a very good relationship with their daughter. That's something money can't buy. The real problem is the organized crime groups not the individual mules. 200 kilos is a lot of cocaine but it isn't nearly as much as the ATF brought in during Operation Fast and Furious.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What the ATF (gov) and a private citizen can do are two different things obviously. Olie North spit in the face of Congress (lied) sold drugs to buy guns and was called a god damned hero! *shakes head* I don't usually get into the big picture of the failed "war on drugs" because I find greed and corruption sprouting from both gov and gangsters. At least the gangsters are honest about it. We have a lot to learn from alcohol prohibition but no one is paying attention to that 20/20 hindsight. I think the entire United States (and by default Canadas) approach is laughable. A year ago our Federal gov put horrific new laws on the books concerning drugs (much to the dismay of other world leaders) just to assuage the lunatics in Washington. Then Colorado and Washington state made pot legal.

Anyway, I believe you are referring to the prisoner transfer treaty. Canada and America have one with Thailand. It works something like this. If they give you fifty years in Bang Kwang (the big tiger) you typically serve 7 or so years and then can "serve the rest of your time in your home country." When they transfer you to a facility back here in North America you serve a couple of months and then they let you out because our laws don't provide for such massive sentences for such crimes. They then tell you never to return to that country...duh...heh. But, much to the chagrin of British citizens, Britain does not have a treaty so you're stuck there. You die there. As far as I know Canada does not have this treaty with New Caledonia. They don't even have a consulate there. If you look at the govs website they even say through the Canada-Australia Consular Services Sharing Agreement, your only option for consular help is through the Australian consulate. How much do you think the Australian Consulate is going to want to help them? I think they are in one of the most severely screwed up situations a human can be in and not be dead. Which is a distinct possibility for them. I shudder to think what's happening to Cindy, an attractive blond woman of European heritage alone in that place. Ugh... Look at the iron hand New Caledonian authorities are playing. They've most like milked them for any information they might have had and the Stanleys haven't even been charged. They are denying any sort of communication with them. The province, ottawa, the local police...all are being shut out while no charges even being laid. It's absolutely brutal.

    http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=40d60ca1-31b2-44a5-867f-646f46c19fd4

And I agree with you. It looks like they had a wonderful family and life. They are guilty of being greedy and stupid but pedos arrested in this country are being treated astronomically better than they are. And I find that a far worse crime.

I can't imagine what Tamara is going through. The helplessness...the abject ghastly fear and revulsion. Ungodly sad. :(

I just feel like their punishment is going to be off the scale compared to the slimy big time drug pushers that get arrested here and hang out in our club feds. It's not fair.

SO PLEASE LET THIS BE A LESSON TO ALL. DON'T BE A DRUG MULE FOR ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY!!!!! IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK!!!!

  15. I agree their punishment is excessive and that they were set up by the DEA to be caught there for that purpose. I don't think the war on drugs was a failure, just that certain government agencies were on the wrong side of that war and profiting from it. Oliver North should be in jail not a freakin Fox News host. What was their point of origin and their destination? They should be tried in one of those two locations not somewhere they happened to sail past.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If there is no Canadian consulate and they are referred to the Australian consulate then they should be tried in Australia. Perhaps Amnesty International might be of assistance.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The profit from the "drug war" from surveillance to arrest to imprisonment is mind boggling if you include everyones salaries and massive for profit prison system funding. Did you know in America there are lots of places where a joint will put you in jail for twenty five years?

I'll give you a big "here, here!" for your opinion on Olie North. :)

I think the trip was unregistered (as they were trying to be sly) so any manifest would have been incorrect anyway because they were heading for a clandestine meeting. The joke being that they were watched closely the entire time they thought they were being sneaky. *shakes head*

I wish the Australians would help out but I think they were part of the decision making when it came to basically abandoning them there. So, I doubt they will care much even if our gov asked them to.

I don't think Amnesty International would care. Do they help people who have been charged with crimes (or not in this case) that are pretty cut and dry? I don't know.

I'll bet Tamara is one girl in desperate need of a hug...sheesh...

  18. I oppose privatized prisons. They are a flaming conflict of interest. Texas had strict laws against pot but I think even they are starting to see the fiscal costs. I think there's a huge difference between pot and crack or crystal meth. I support decriminalization of pot but not crack or meth. I think we need stiffer penalties for those offenses. Not thirty years but more than just house arrest. The big money was made by government agencies that sold cocaine they received as payment for arms they sold. Sending someone to jail for pot while they made millions from the sale of crack was absurd.

Amnesty International might help. This case revolves around human rights. People have the right to a fair trial, to have a lawyer represent them and to have human conditions in prison. The black prison sites of the CIA violate all of those because they make those torture sites off shore where they claim citizens aren't protected by the constitution. It is an immoral twisting of the constitution knowing full well it violates the intent of the constitution.

Amnesty International will support a criminal found guilty of anything if they receive the death penalty. I'm not sure I'd be as zealous to support that aspect of their campaign for all offences but my point is that's one example of a cause they support where the people are guilty. Does New Caledonia have a bona fide court system where they will be represented by a real lawyer? If it doesn't then AI can help raise the objection they be tried somewhere that does, Australia, Canada or their point of origin. Not some remote island they happened to sail past. Then there's the concern about conditions of imprisonment. Even if they add there name to a list people can write letters on behalf of, at least that's something.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agent K, you're my kinda guy. :) I don't see any point in putting drug addicts in jail. But, I have no problem with sending people (who originate and distribute those drugs in large quantities) away for a very long time. Even the death penalty if they sell drugs and people overdose and die. It's my humble opinion you shouldn't be selling something that can kill people after altering their perceptions.

I've found govs to be very corrupt when it comes to money and drugs. America is so hypocritical at this point it's frankly, just a shame.

The CIA has made a laughable joke out of the Geneva convention and even basic forms of decency. That is why I think Amnesty International is really ineffective. The rule of the law of the land in any sovereign country is supposed to be sacrosanct. But, then again, America constantly violates sovereign countries and arrests people in their own country and steals them to America to imprison them. Even American high courts have found this to be illegal...but nothing changes. Might makes right.

This is a cool site. Thanks for putting it up.

I read some of the Buziak stuff. Everyone seems to think it's Shirley and sons...but they passed a lie detector test. If you try to fool those tests the best result you're likely to get is an "inconclusive." But they apparently all "passed". I know the police really take polygraphs seriously, so I can see why they "cleared" them. Unless the cops are involved...but that seems a bit off. What's your opinion on the who dunnit? I know the keystone cops around here will never figure it out...

    ReplyDelete
  20. The CIA is a bigger criminal organization than Gordon Campbell's Liberals. I don't think Shirley held the knife but I think her son was involved. He has a lot of drug dealer friends. All he had to do was to rat someone out in Calgary and them blame it on Lindsey.

  23. Actually Agent K, can you explain this to me? I'm rather disturbed when I see slavery of eastern European girls in Tel Aviv as hooker/slaves and awful instances of crime against children in Thailand. Can you explain this to me?

    http://www.lockedup.co.za/does-south-africa-have-a-prisoner-transfer-agreement.html

Has this world gotten any farther from Roman barbarism?

    I ask you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well that's somewhat profound. I've been to Tel Aviv. Many years ago. I didn't realize the sex trade was a large problem there. If I do recall there is a rather strange story in the Bible about that with regards to Judah and his daughter in law. He was going to have her stoned for adultery because she got pregnant after her husband had died. Until he found out he was the father of the child. Kinda awkward. Child labour in Thailand is a huge concern as is child prostitution in Bangkok. That link appears to be just about South Africa not having prison transfer agreements with any other country. Kinda like how it would be nice if Canada had one with Australia or New Caledonian for the Stanleys. You are quite right in that for all our civilization there yet remains a great deal of barbarianism.

    ReplyDelete
  25. For all continued playing of the race card related to slavery that happens in America (there are numerous "community activists" who continually link high levels of single parent families and the fact that blacks are disproportionately represented in prison populations to something that ended a century and a half ago, it is in fact a staple of their trade as it were)it is worth remebering that is was white Europeans who ended the slave trade as regards Western Civilization.

That is not to say that they ended it however. Slavery, real slavery, still exists today in two basic locals, Africa itself, and the Gulf States/Saudi Arabia. I worked in Kuwait for a year and was disgusted at the way the Kuwaiti's treat people from impoverished countries who come there to work. Their passports are immediately seized and exchanged for a Kuwaiti ID which must be carried on them at all times. Many of them are forced to work for less pay for than agreed on and often must go to court to get paid at all. Many of the female domestics are raped by their employers, etc., and every year dozens escape from the country by various ways that do not include just going to the airport with their passport and flying home. Quite frankly I left there after a year thinking that perhaps we should have let Sadaam hold on to the place rather than returning it to the Kuwaiti's. Many Kuwaiti's are of course grateful (within limits) to American's for getting them their country back, but anyone who treats other people like that deserves to suffer as well. And don't bring up the subject of Israel or Jews either. They all have to die of course....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Just to clarify in case anyone reading that doesn't realize that your comment about Israel and the Jews all have to die is one of complete sarcasm mocking those who hold that absurd belief and is in no way condoning that crazed notion. I did see one web site with swastikas on it using this case as propaganda to exterminate Jews. That is really offensive. That's what we fought in the trenches to oppose.

*sigh* How to broach this subject. Jews and Arabs are semitic. Semitic people have been reviled throughout history as undesirable people to be around. As Jews and Arabs hate each other with an unbridled passion that dwarfs even Hitler, I'm surmising that they are the two top anti-semitic peoples on the planet. Yah, that's weird. These two peoples have spawned ungodly (excuse the pun) violent religions that have scarred humanity for all time.

    1. Your opinion of semitic religions is naive to be sure. They are very horrible, awful, violent religions. Just read the books and you'll know what I'm talking about....hell, just read the torah...that will give you a good summary.

Anyway, I didn't say I believed they weren't desirable to be around...just that "historically" in Europe and even in Russia...they are disliked. A stereotype is just a common descriptor that people use to generalize. It doesn't mean all people are like that...and it doesn't mean that it's untrue.
