Retired cop obsesses over pot

This is is a little bizarre. A retired cop wrote into the Vancouver Province yesterday claiming the Vancouver Police chief is derelict in duty. He states "As a retired police officer I find it deplorable and a dereliction of duties by the Vancouver Police Department that it allows the open sale of drugs." That actually makes sense. The open sale of crack and fentanyl in the DTES and on the Surrey Strip is an abomination. Unfortunately, that's not what he's referring to.

He's talking about the police's failure to close pot shops in Vancouver. AYFKM? Pot is scheduled to be legal on July 1st. That's why the courts are deferring pot charges because pot charges now are a complete waste of time. Crack, crystal meth and fentanyl are killing people. Pot is not. If all the crack heads in the DTES and on the Surrey Strip got off the crack and just smoked pot, everyone would be far better off. Letting the public sale of crack and fentanyl continue is a deregulation of duty. That is what needs to be addressed.

  1. Unfortunately a lot of officers are part of the problem, not part of the solution. "Officer discretion" to them means not arresting a fellow officer for driving drunk and putting the lives of others at risk. Because "member". Sometimes karma bites hard, as happened years ago when VPD pulled over one of their own on Marine Dr. for DUI, the drunken SOB agreed to take park the car and take a cab home, after his fellow "members" left he got back in the car and moments later plowed at full speed into the back of a semi, solving his problem permanently.

"We're the police, we can do whatever we want". Ethically challenged people don't belong in police work.

    1. No offence but that is absolutely insane. In the US pain killers are the gateway drug to heroin addiction. If all the heroin addicts in the US quit heroin and smoked pot they would be a lot better off.

    2. I've been smoking pot for over 30 years. When do these other horrible problems start? It boggles my mind how people buy this bullshit propaganda hook line and sinker with zero proof. Poll 1000 junkies and ask them what their " gateway" was. I bet you they all smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol. Why don't conservatives run crying through the streets about that?

    4. Actually Revelations 21:8 doesn't say that. It doesn't mention Catholics, Muslims, Mormons, Buddhists, Jews or pot smokers at all. It does say murderers and liars though so back at ya b*tch:

    1. I'm sorry but that argument is absolutely insane and we will never agree on it. That argument is what has caused the crack and fentanyl crisis. By obsessing over grow ops and turning a blind eye to crack, crystal meth or fentanyl, the overdose crisis has become an epidemic. Throwing everyone in jail for pot but not crack is insane and down right evil because of the number of deaths it causes.

That article sates "the predictors of progression from cannabis to other illicit drugs remain largely unknown. Lifetime cumulative probability estimates indicated that 44.7% of individuals with lifetime cannabis use progressed to other illicit drug use at some time in their lives. "

That's like saying people who jay walk go on to commit other violent crime like murder. It's like saying arrest everyone for jay walking but don't do a thing when they commit murder. It is morally wrong.

  4. Doc, I usually agree with most of your points but weed is not the gateway drug, alcohol is. I guarantee you most kids drink a beer long before they smoke dope. Maybe not in BC, but over all, yeah. It's a simple matter of availability.

    1. Yeah I'm closing the comments on this one. Pot did not cause the US opiate crisis, pain killers did. Claiming pot did is absurd.

  5. Your line about people quitting the harder drugs and taking up m.j. made me laugh. It would be a better and safer world. All those terribly thin people would be eating from the munchies. ah, open a dairy queen next door to the m.j. shop and you have a receipe for success.
